What is your grail knife?

ZT 0566 Hinderer design was my first grail knife, next is the Spyderco SpydieChef. I'm not as adventurous as some of you, but those appeal to me.View attachment 951747
The 0566 was one of my first $100+ knives, I've had it close to 10 years and it's been used alot. I got one of the early versions available in Elmax.

I took the spring out of it and tuned it up myself so that it swing open manually with a quick flick and upgraded the hardware to titanium and ground a choil into it myself. It's my favorite work knife. Indestructible. Good taste man... IMG_20210502_003147.jpg

This is a Grail knife as well (Matt Cook Fat Lady), I would love to own one but there are things a lil further up the chain in the $1K neighborhood but it's not completely out of the question. I know I could never get "this" knife but if I called him I'm sure he'd be working on something or might have something sitting around his shop I could get my hands on.... he's a great guy. He will talk your ear off though lol. IMG_20211117_232748.jpg

I got mine a while back, a Strider SnG. And I discovered that 1) if I misplaced it, then it wasn't handy to cut my wrists cuz I lost it : ( 2) Mere mortals can't sharpen S30V. It has to be done on a solid 48" diamond whet wheel powered by unmarried maidens and hand guided by Thor's cousin who can't be named.

I used it for two years in a CNC shop cutting shrink wrap off stampings piled on steel carts and decided the foreman was eventually going to wonder who was shaving off the angle iron to check the edge. I supposed I could send it in for a touch up but I don't want to ever have it out of sight that long.

Long ago I had one of those Gerber Guardian boot knives, the short version with the leather clip on sheath.
I lost it late one night when I was in Chile. Wish I had replaced it a few months later when I returned to the states. :(
Boy, have they gotten collectable and expensive these days... o_O

OK, an "update"...
I found one of the boot knives at the "bay" that looks pretty minty.
Yes, I, (well the wife..) hit the buy it now button. :)

Yeah, I still kick myself for selling the MkII I had when I was in the Army. Granted I still made money, bought at the PX, sold at a gun show, but they're worth even more now.....

Shanghai McCoy

Still have my Gerber Guardian (bought one of the first ones I came across when they first hit the market). Had the good sense to buy the extra sheath and velcro straps for it. A very handy and easy to conceal little boot knife. Also hung onto my Gerber Mk.I and Mk.II through countless moves and some tough financial times. It hasn't always been easy but I have managed to keep the Trio together!

IMG_20211119_115545.jpg I was checking this out the other day, not sure if it's a much older CS. Anybody have any info on it, model, etc.... looks decent. Kind of like a Mora

ETA: Picture helps with visualization of "this". Lol

I need to take pictures of mine. A set of butchering knives that a much loved uncle made for me out of what he called “bog iron.” I helped him find the iron and cranked the blower when he made the steel. I was also taught far more about chemical analysis and metallurgy than a 12 year old girl should know.

The knives themselves are “folded” from “blister steel” that was produced in a brick box with charcoal. From the filet knife to the cleaver… once you get an edge on it you have to do something stupid to lose it. Even better…they are tools made by a tool user with a lifetime of experience behind him. What else should a grail be?

It's funny how for me, a Grail knife doesn't necessarily have to be the fanciest, I looked over the entire Chris Reeve inventory of knives, basket weave Damascus with mammoth ivory inlays, tear drop Damascus with snake wood, ladder pattern with bog oak and gold ano hardware accents, etc.... I could have chosen any one of those and the ones that spoke to me most was the plain Ti with polished blade but I went a lil fancy with the canvas micarta inlay. It's just fancy enough for me and had been a long time grail.........
