What is your preferred type of firearm?

I've had about everything but I recently discovered Hi-Powers. I don't know how I could have gone so long without one.

Now there is a true convert :D

Anything 1911, for handguns. Rifles, bolt action (mind you, I love my semis, but my bolt actions are just...right.) Shotgun, semiauto because I have weenie shoulders and it helps with the recoil.

I like the kind that go BANG...

I have an appreciation for all types of firearms, but I'm especially fond of lever actions

+1. All types, and all firearms of the same type. Period.

My buying habits change often. I lusted for a certain revolver for awhile. As soon as I had it, I lusted for a lever gun. Soon as I had that, a bolt gun, so forth and so on. Eventually it comes full circle and I start all over again.

See my sig line. I can appreciate a good modern gun, but I love the feel and history of an old surplus. Just bought another Mosin, in fact.

Essentially 20th century Millitary firearms. Also smaller automatic pistols rom the 30's and 40's.

For just playing around? Like self defense wasn't any kind of consideration?

Well if you can't afford a machinegun, .22 caliber rifles, handguns, and revolvers are the most fun you can have with your pants on.

My 625 is so much fun. It's one of my favorites and really is not practical for anything other than killing paper. I might change my mind if I was arthritic though.

But I like the AK and AR platforms too (esp. the latter) just from a hobby perspective. It's the only thing I've ever found I can "DIY" well at home.

Though I am new to guns I am drawn to bolt actions and ones with history/a story.

Revolvers. Of the .40 caliber break-open variety. (Yes, I know there aren't many, of any, of that kind around, but you didn't ask that.)
Uzis. They rock.
Old school bolt-action milsurps and the Garand.
The M14. And FAL and G3.
AKs.
Shotguns. 12 gauge pumps and semis alike.

Always preferred semi-auto pistols (specifically Glocks, among others) and semi-auto rifles (AR-15's among others).

Auto-loader 12 G does it for me. Its a bad month if I don't burn at least a couple of cases on Sporting Clays and/or wing shooting..

What is usually termed "Main Battle Rifles" loosely.
They are my favorite lately and I'm working on collecting a few.

The .308's mostly; M14, FAL, HK G3

Oddly, my 'favorite' firearm of late isn't--thanks to a garage sale pick-up I've re-discovered the joy of shooting an American-Made pneumatic air pistol again--a gen. 2 / Crossman 1377 'American Classic'. When I get my Benjamin fixed (one of these days) I'll be happier still. I mean, I live in a place where I could shoot my Garand or .45 every day---but I get a great deal of satisfaction from nailing a 4" metal lid hanging 70 ft. from my backyard deck with a .177 air pistol. Honest, it's a good challenge--that's the kick!

Odd, I've NEVER owned a bolt action rifle (I do own a SR 12ga bolt, however--that seems odd, too).

My S&W M681, and leverguns.
first time I took my middle daughter to the range, she noticed other guys watching while I put some rounds through the S&W. She said one guy actually interrupted his "turn" while shooting with his buddies so he could watch. It has always been my fav and it upped dad's "cool factor" with the youngin.

Having been out of it for awhile, and now digging into the closet, I'd have to go with pistol caliber carbines. Light weight, low recoil, easy on the hands and shoulders, easier to re-load for. Advantageous for close range work.

My taste right now is classic. I love and collect old rimfires, mostly bolt actions. I love the old bolt action target rifles from the 30's and 40's all the way up to the 60's. My safe is full of a collection spanning most of the major makers: Mossberg (mostly), Remington, Winchester, even Marlin. For a brief while I even had an Anschutz, but that is a long, sad story.

My home made 45 cal flintlock.

Cartridge firearms are too easy to hit what you aim at.

Blackpowder puts a few more varibles into the projectiles path
