What is your vision of a perfect pocket gun?

My perfect pocket gun will never happen, I pretty sure, but I can always dream.

Mine would be a stainless steel Colt Pony/mini Browing Hi-Power style gun in 9mm. Same size as the Pony and single action automatic of course. It would be designed to handle +P+ loads in the long term. Or perhaps specifically engineered for Winchester +P+ Rangers. It would have the same style low profile frame safety (with an option for an ambidextrous safety for lefties) as is found on pre-MKII Browing Hi-Powers.

It would be 6+1 capacity or larger with flush fitting magazines and if at all possible to engineer, should accept Browning P-35/Hi-Power magazines (extending out of the bottom of course).

It would have low profile fixed white bar sights (three bar sights, two rear one in front) with an option for night sights for those of us who like them (not me currently, but I've been going back and forth on the subject).

I prefer guns without firing pin safeties in general, but a pocket gun carried C&L in a pocket holster (with no leather to cover the firing pin and block the hammer in case the sear breaks) must have a BHP MKIII style firing pin safety to save the knee/gonads where the gun in pointing in case of a sear failure.

Carried in an Uncle Mike's #4 pocket holster. I hate how leather holsters muss stainless steel over time.

I like what you're describing, but I'm not sure ANY pocket gun could be made to accept BHP mags - right there it's now too wide for pocket duty, in my opinion.

Otherwise it sounds like a Colt Pocket Nine in single-action instead of DAO would be close to fitting your request!

No matter what I try, I keep going back to my S&W mod 60. It's easy to carry, good defensive caliber and they can be shot directly from the pocket, if need be.

I agree with PCRCCW, the Kahr looks like an all around excellent choice. I could not afford a Kahr last year when I needed a smaller gun so I bought a Kel-Tec P-11 instead. So far mine has been 100% reliable and I am on my second top-end (I upgraded to hard chrome). I am looking to get a Kahr later. Maybe next year sometime.

I think the real issue here is clothing selection/design, not the gun you choose. For us bigger guys, if we can find the right pocket with enough depth/width that is sturdy enough for routine service, that would hold almost anything. Sorry, but I can't help you little beanpoles.

I would like to see H&K make a single stack 9mm or .40 pocket pistol that holds at least 6+1 and is made of a strong, lightweight material. Something truly tiny and light, but rugged and reliable.

Or, how about a 12 ounce 6+1 pistol less than an inch in width, with a new, revolutionary recoil reduction system allowing it to fire 10mm with the perceived recoil of a .22!!

But I'd love to see Glock scale down to .32 size with a 6 round single stack mag. About the size of a Kel-Tec .32. And if it could be chambered in .32NAA, that would be icing.
Run that as the back up to your full sized .357 SIG Glock.

I would be second in line for the slim HK. Hopefully, now that they will manufacture here in the states, that may be a possibility. I think the LEM that they have is ideal for pocket carry. Only, one needs to be able to decock it for that heavier initial pull. If you haven't tried an LEM it is great. I was skeptical, but didn't understand how it worked till I had a chance to shoot it-brilliant.

I'm talking easy front pocket carry. Something that works even in jean shorts and T-shirt weather without hindering movement or having a grip stick out of the pocket.

I'm quite pleased with the S&W M37 5-shot snub. Nobody EVER seems to realize I have it with me, whether it's in a winter coat or under a casual shirt in the summer.

And, Pachmayr Compacs make it a JOY to shoot at the range. A hideout gun that's FUN to shoot? And it takes a common round with plenty of 'plinking' brands to choose from as well as some serious hollowpoint choices!

Not too many pocket autos can say the same.

(But I sure wouldn't mind winning one of those NAA Guardians in a raffle or a giveaway!)

When I think of the term "pocket gun", I think of a
small frame weapon such as a revolver; but more
liking to the semi-auto. Perfect caliber's are purely
subjective, but I think the 9m/m is minimal
for a serious defense firearm. I haven't always
thought like that, cuz I carried a Iver Johnson TP-
22 for a long time; as it was inexpensive and a
exact copy of Walther's PPK but in .22LR caliber.
Loaded with .22LR "Stinger's", it provided the
necessary protection as a back-up weapon.

The TP-22 has long since been discontinued; but
before it left the scene extra magazines were
going for $140* bucks a pop! Any way, I
don't guess it really matter's cause this little
gem was taken in Oct. of 1994 and never was
recovered; a result of my wife's car-jacking!

Okay, okay - for a "dream gun" more rooted in the real world, I'd be pretty partial to a de-bugged, 2nd or 3rd generation Kel-Tec P3AT that was re-designed for 9mm Makarov.

Another gun which I could get made as a "semi-custom" proposition in this day and age would be an STI LS9(think "Officer's Model" 1911 made with a super-thin slide, even slimmer than a Walther PPK), modified with a Cylinder & Slide SFS kit for hammer-down carry, and a bobbed-off beavertail and frame tangs like the new Para Carry LDA's.

As it is, though, I'm perfectly content with my S&W 642 .38 Airweight Centennial snubby riding in my front pants pocket.

If I want to see my perfect pocket pistol, I just pull out my Seecamp and RJ Hedley's "Front Pocket LE" holster.
Loaded with RBCD's, it does a lot of damage to whatever I shoot. (The .32ACP RBCD's are short~about the same OAL length as a Silvertip. Much too short (IMHO) for my P-32. It gets the much longer Fiocchi .32 FMJ's.) I have a real nice P-32 that's lighter and a little thinner, but I bought it because it's a neat little pistol that I wanted to "collect"... But it's the Seecamp I carry.

That would be a 9x19 DAO locking breech pistol with sights that weighs a tad over 12 ounces unloaded and is constructed of stainless and aluminum and about the same size as a P-32 or P-3AT.
