I'm looking for a spotting scope that I can see my bullet holes clearly at 300 yards and hopefully further out. I imagine most of my shooting will be at 100 - 300 yards. I have a budget of $200 to $300 so i'm probably looking for a used scope. If anyone has any suggestions I'd apprediate it.

At that distance you will need a scope with an 80mm ojective lens. Scopes in your budget may on occasion allow you to see the bullet holes if the environmental conditions are perfect. I.E. no wind, no heat, no mirage, brigh day, etc. The problem is that as you increase the magnification power from 20x to 50 or 60x the low budget scopes will lose their brightness and the images appear darker. Using Shoot N C target may help. But at that distance you need to increase your budget by at least $700 dollars. The least expensive scope that may get you there is a Bushnell elite with E.D. glass for about $899. or Brunton around the same price range.

You'll need $300 for the Celestron C 130 Mak:

[Holy crap, just realized that this scope has been discontinued and so the price has shot way up!! ***? http://www.google.com/products/cata...e=UTF-8&cid=12572080176122260351&os=sellers#p ]**

and another $150 for a GOOD used tripod.

So if the tripod budget is separate, it can be done on this meager budget - Can you swing that? :)

**So bottom line is, you're screwed. :p No, there may be a scope that will reach out that far, depending on conditions. Maybe a Konus or Alpen with Dirty Bird targets. The C90 Mak may cut the mustard as well:

Also, the Celestron Ultima 22-66x100mm with E.D. glass is only around $400 - $500 - this will be my next spotting scope purchase - way less than other ED scopes, and a huge 100mm objective:

I was hoping to find something used with a tripod for $200 - 300 . Looks like I'm going to need to save a fair bit more. I appreciate everyone's help. I've been looking on ksl.com (a local newspaper) and they have some spotting scopes there in my budget but I don't know if their worth spending the money on if there not going to do what I want them to do (save me walking 300 + yards to check every shot). Thanks again.
