What kind of bullet is this? I think a .50

I was going thru some of my uncle’s old hunting stuff and I came along this round. I think it’s a .50 but I’m not sure.
Here is what I can tell you.

Length. 5 1/2 inches
Copper tip, Brass shell
The tip is greenish/blueish in color.

Can anyone clarify if it is a .50 cal round and what kind is it. Thanks a lot.

Halfway educated guess, but if it's a military round, LC tells you where it was made- at the Lake City facility. 53 would be the year.

What Harry Tuttle said. Plus not much else is that long. I've got a .50BMG on my desk and it measures 5.5" too. I doubt anything else comes close, short of something like a 20mm. In line with what other people have said, measure the bullet too.

Koning, do you have a good set of calipers? If you do the brass case to the round you have should have the following dimensions: @ the brass just below the bullet is between .551 to .554, where the case necks down .711, @ the base above the taper .794 to .796, and case over all length of 3.894 to 3.896. Hope this helps you.

Nope, 50 projectiles:

Blue tip M1 incendiary
Silver tip M8 API
Burgundy - M17 Tracer
silver/red - M20 APIT
black tip = M2 AP

An all-over pale blue cannon shell does indicate a target practice (inert shell) round, but cannon have their own colour schemes.

The Maadi Griffin kit gun fiasco, anybody? I don't want the BATFE knocking down his door, so I would strongly advise against building your own 50 cal rifle. Also, I wouldn't suggest building a rifle from scratch unless you know what you're doing - don't want to put too little metal on the lugs and have the bolt go backwards into your shoulder when it fires. Unless you're into body piercing like that.

As to what you can do with that - make a paperweight? Until you get a rifle, it's essentially a cylindrical, long paperweight.

If you have the knowledge, there's nothing wrong with building your own .50. You can still buy the plans to build a Maadi Griffin, the kits are no longer for sale. It's not illegal to build your own .50 unless you live in Kali.

Definitely an M1 incendiary round of 50BMG, in Lake City brass. I can't make out the case head clearly enough to determine if the primer crimps have been removed, which would indicate it was a reload.

Hey what's this bullet: my guess is it looks like .223.

Casing: 63mm long (there is no bullet)
Diameter, from the base: 12mm.
Diameter, from the neck: 8mm.

What's is it?

Edit: on the bottom, it says "H X P 6 3"

Sounds like a .30-06 empty to me; "HXP 63" is Greek, produced by the Helvetica Powder Works in 1963.
