What Kind Of Response Do You Think I'll Get From Senators Blunt and McCaskill???

I just sent identical emails to both of them (I also send letters which are a bit more structured, but I was just so ticked at seeing Bloomberg this morning). The emails read as follows:

Dear Senator Blunt/McCaskill,

I just watched Meet the Press this morning and wanted to email both you and Senator McCaskill/Blunt about the upcoming gun bills. On behalf of the people of Missouri, please do not vote in favor of any new gun laws. Mayor Bloomberg is talking about "banning" everything (he started talking about soda machines!) and talking about "allowing" people to do this or do that. That is the perspective he is coming from when he talks about firearms - he obviously doesn't think we in the U.S.A. have a "right" to bear/possess firearms.

I also want to add that passing laws requiring more background checks won't make criminals go through background checks (since they are criminals, they won't subject themselves to background checks - they don't care about what laws are out there).

Please don't vote in favor of anymore gun laws. There are a lot of responsible, law abiding people that own firearms (especially in Missouri) that don't commit any crimes and crazies from New York shouldn't be telling us that we need more firearms-related laws. I'll end by saying that I am happy to report that I will be talking about this issue and your vote with all of my family, friends, and co-employees here in the great state of Missouri! Thanks!

McCaskill will send you the same form response she sent me, most likely. She spouts the same generic "must do something responsible for the sake of the children" bullarkey. She isn't dumb enough to vote for a ban, but she would most likely vote for some sort of background check bill.

I plan on volunteering for some campaigns in Missouri in 2014. We have it pretty good in Missouri, but now we have to go on the offense instead of constantly defending our rights.

I sent them both mutiple emails. Blunt was solidly pro 2a. Claire was solidly anti in her first response, though the response to my other email seemed a lot more carefully worded. In the first she talked of the need for the AWB and restrictions on magazine capacity. In the second she mentioned neither the AWB of mag capacity restriction and just talked of the needed for a universal background check, so her stance has softened, at least in her email replies.

edit:I would like to add that mccaskill's initial response was jan. 12 and her other was jan 26, so she probably received a lot of hatemail on the issue between the two.

Blondie,

Blunt will stand pro 2A so you'll get his pro 2A form letter. Claire will say she supports gun ownership but thinks that reasonable controls should be in place.

I've called and emailed McCaskill's office many times and her staffers are always polite but whatever she may say she backs some forms of gun control.
