What kind of rifle can I buy?

Well I have been looking at some ammo prices and aparently 7.62x39 and
7.62X54R is DIRTH cheap. So I wanted to know what type of Rifle can I get something CHEAP around $400 or less that will shoot these calibers for mostly PLINKING and that’s got a pretty good accuracy.

and by the way where can i buy 7.62x39 and 7.62X54R for a good price. just want to know where you guys buy your ammo and the price.

Thanks

Well, for 7.62x39mm - I would recommend the Saiga rifle. It is the highest quality AK action rifle you can get. Reliable and accurate (at least as accurate as 7.62x39mm is going to get out of an autoloader, CZ has a bolt action but it is over $400) Second choice might be an SKS. SKS is cheaper than the Saiga, and the Saiga shouldn't cost more than $280.

For 7.62x54R, I'd go with a Mosin Nagant. Lot of choices. From the carbines, to rifles and various grades and years inbetween. All depends on your budget.

Ammo is available all over the net. x39 is not as cheap as 54R. The cheap 54R is corrosive though.

for under 400$ you can get a Finn Mosin. it will shoot circles around a regular mosin, even with surplus ammo.

Conceivably, for $400, you could get a Mosin Nagant (less than $100) and a Yugo SKS ($150-200?) and still have some money left over to buy some ammunition.
I have been keeping my eye on the Saiga. Heard a lot of good things about them and they are black and look

Way better quality than the Romanian WASR 10s that the drunken howler monkeys are currently flooding the market with. I have run around 1200 rounds through this one without a single malfunction and have yet to clean it (I did run some patches down the barrel). Bouncing soda cans at 100 yards is surprisingly easy to do with this rifle. I run either Wolf or Brown Bear ammo and the rifle loves it.

My only gripe with my particular rifle is that the cheek pad in the picture was useless without a scope (too high). Since I have no intentions of scoping this rifle I popped it off and made a new one.

For cheap ammo try aimsurplus.

Try these three out, they usually have pretty good prices on ammo.

As far as the particular rifle goes and what you say you're going to be using for the SKS might be your best bet. It's cheap ($100 to $200) so it'll leave you plenty of money for ammo, it's rugged, it's accurate for a former com-bloc rifle and the SKS's are usually more accurate than an AK (or AK clone), which is basically your other choice in 7.62X39 except for the exotic, expensive (and uncommon) Czech VZ58. Most SKS's don't have detachable mags, so that's the only drawback and they don't have the chicks dig it factor that AK's seem to have, but they'll do the job.

You'll get minute of coffee cup accuracy with the SKS instead of minute of pie plate accuracy with the AK. To me that's worth looking into as it's one of the best buys around and they're cheap as hell to shoot. Since the 7.62X39 basically has the same ballistic potential that the 30-30 does, alot of guys use their SKS's as short range deer and hog rifles.

At current prices, $400 will buy you a Mosin Nagant and several thousand rounds of 7.62x54R ammo. Big boom, heavy recoil, but loads of fun.

Saiga. Ammo's not as cheap as the MN's 7.62x 54mm, but I think you'll get a bit more enjoyment out of the Saiga.

Really, you should get the Saiga, and then get the Mosin. They're cheap enough to get within at least six months of each other. Cheap to feed, too.
