i have a ka-bar warthog with a tanto blade on it i got for chirstmas 2009 from my sister and i carry it everyday. it has yet to fail me in any task. do you carry your knife for defense, as a tool, or both? mine is a tool first and a back up to my hi point c9 second.

Welcome to THR!

Most people are better served by a folder than a large fixed blade for daily carry. Knives are also much better tools than weapons. I'm usually carrying a Spyderco Manix 2.

I carry a few knives daily... A small 3 blade pocket knife with a winchester stamp (cheapo, but works great and holds an edge just fine), a S&W HRT OTF assisted open spearpoint knife, and a spring assisted tanto point folder (made in china, but still decent quality. Holds an edge and it's sturdy.... It's survived going out the car window at 70mph onto the concrete... don't ask lol). I also frequently carry others depending on what the situation calls for. I carry my knives as tools, primarily though if need be they can be employed in a defensive scenario.

I carry a Byrd Cara Cara 2 right now. Pretty good quality for an under $30 knife. I use it for opening boxes, usual stuff around the home, etc. I think if I needed it for self defense it would work, up to a point.

really depends on the day...on any given day....my carry knife(s) may include:

Emerson A-100
Gerber LST
Buck Parallex
SAK tinker
K55k mercator
Opinel 8/10
kabar TDI serrated

i think thats all of them.....

they all get rotated pretty evenly.......carry them primarily as tools, but if i need a weapon, i wouldnt hesitate to use it.

My work has a policy against weapons. It limits what I would like to carry. As such, I carry a Swiss Army Tinkerer pocket knife. It's really all I can get away with. The only thing it doesn't have is a pliars on it. I've seen other models and Leatherman tools that do but given the extra bulk, I have decided to stick with what I have.

For the past few months, I've been carrying one of these with a yellow delrin handle. It is one beautifully made knife. Fit and finish are outstanding; it is even polished internally which is seldom seen these days. AG has them made in China to his specs. A knife of equivalent quality from the US or Japan would cost dramatically more. It's a truism that Chinese-made knives are junk, but once upon a time the same was said about knives made in Japan. If this knife is any indicator, the Chinese really can get their act together when it pay for them to do so. I may be adding one of the wooden-handled variants later on.
While you are at AG's site, everybody needs one of these with the plain titanium scales.

Today I've got my Chris Reeve Lg 21 Sebenza paired up with my Case Chrome Vanadium Canoe in amber bone.

My EDC is a Benchmade Barrage. more of a tool than a weapon, for all the years I've carried a knife, I've never been in a knife fight, but I've encountered a lot of things that needed to be cut.

I've carried a Schrade LB7 lockback on my hip for over 30 years.Good steel, holds a edge great,a little heavy though.I've worn out a couple leather pouches. Biker

Now you've gone and done it:)

At work, Benchmite II (have to keep all blades under 2.5 here). Everywhere else, I rotate. I used to love my CRKT Bladelock, but I lost it. Usually today it's a BM 530 (super light weight), SOG Trident, or a CRKT Surf n' Turf. All are tools first, weapons only when there is no other choice. The only "fighter" I have is a BM Bedlam, which I mainly got because I think the design is visually very nice. While I know knives in general have limited applications in real-life SD, we do not have CHPs here, so you carry what you can legally.

hdbiker,

I got one of those.
Google it, and see they sell for 150 bucks plus in good condition on some of the snooty auction sites!
