I think I am going to do another SxS SBS. I found a SxS (12 gauge) that I forgot I had in the back of one of the safes. I am doing it just for the fun factor, I don't have intended purpose for it. I already have an SBS in a Saiga platform and a SBS double barrel in 410. I realize that the length is a matter of opinion, so I am just curious what you guys did and why.
What length should I cut it down to once the stamp is approved?
Any particular reason that you choose that length?
It will be a pistol grip when I am done with it.

Shotgun powder is very fast burning. You get nearly all of the energy out of the first 10-11" of a 12ga without a fireball. I ended up going a little longer on my Lupara (11.25" if memory serves me) to end of a rib not a vent. It also increases that change that a finger or hand slipping off the forestock hits the underside of the barrel

I was thinking about that as I was staring at the gun last night.

Thanks Swing, great article! 11 inches sounds like the sweet spot. I think I am going to go for it.

I had not seen that article but I has seen some chrony results Mark Serbu posted on another forum long ago that seems to be in agreement.

I applied for permission to cut mine to about 11.5 inches. That will bring it just past the forend. It is of the Schnabel design (and a O/U), so that will help keep my hand on it.
From what I read, that should be enough to maintain a reasonable velocity and energy.
Should only have another couple of months for the stamp now.
