5. The EPA- to help us get clean air and water.
Another "nice idea" turned into a multi-billion dollar bureaucratic boondoggle.
I call BS. When someone dumps dioxin into a sinkhole and unleashes enough pesticides on the aquifer to give anyone who eats local fish teenie weenie weenies,
cleanup is expensive. When someone used agent orange laced motor oil to spray down dirt roads, the EPA was forced to
buy an entire town because nobody else would provide the funds to get the city's residents out of what is now a
giant toxic waste dump.
This is why when I hear the 'I have a right to do what I want with my property' line I am immediately pissed. You do not have a right to do anything with external costs that mean a couple million bucks for you, but cost taxpayers a few billion in cleanups.
If requiring a 14 year old to inform her parents of an abortion is 'conservative' then I plead guilty. How about I plead to being a parent (mine are all grown up now, safely thank you)...does that mean I don't have an interest in the matter? In a narrow legal definition, I probably don't. Narrow legal definations are just that...narrow. There is also the little matter of what is right and desired by the majority.
The purpose of the bill of rights was to protect the minority from the majority...there is nothing in the constitution about judges forcing that minority viewpoint on the majority.
Oh come now. You weren't forced to have an abortion, were you? That sortof thing actually does happen -- in Communist China. There's no forcing going on here. Doctors are not forced to perform them. The only forcing even possible to argue is police forcing people to
not kill abortion providers and bomb clinics.
Here's what a classical liberal wants in the constitution: A guaranteed right to privacy. The thought that my walls are transparent to infrared cameras gives me the screaming heebie-jeebies, and there seems to be no effective way to counter this effect. (Lining walls with tinfoil, perhaps?
) It's neither a search nor a seizure, but it's damn well an intrusion.
