I am trying to put togethera package for a DSA FAL Para Carbine. It has the 16.25 inch barrel.

I have an Eotech on an AR, and it is nice, but I am thinking I might want something with a low power magnification on it, maybe 2-3 times at the most. I would like something that would be still usuable at close distances, but also give me a little bit of help at several hundred yards. I want it to be quick into action, and usable in low lighting.

Is there anything like that out there? Do the Trijicon ACOGS fit the bill?

Well, seems like you have a couple of options:

TA11 ACOG (better eye relief... the 1.4" eye relief on the 4x ACOGs might be a little close on an FAL).

TR21 Accupoint - same technology as the ACOG in a variable power scope; but a lot cheaper.

Schmidt & Bender Short Dot - 1-4x variable with red dot in the middle and mil-dot reticle. Great scope but pricy ($2k).

Nightforce 1-4x - a lot like the Short Dot; but different reticles. Better price too... but still expensive $1500 or so.

Leupold 1.5-5x - illuminated mil-dot but illumination not bright enough for daylight use

Then you gave a whole range of affordable shotgun scopes from $170-250 that do pretty well on rifles out to 300yds.

I use a Weaver 1x3 on my JP 3-gun AR. The guys at JP said they use it also. It has worked great so far. Shoots great long distance and is truely no mag on the 1x scale. Good all around for $200.

I have a compact ACOG on my M4gery and am sold on them. It is a 1.5 x 24, amber triangle and exactly suited to the weapon and its characteristics. Trijicon is coming out with a 3x30 compact calibrated to the M118 round and as soon as it is available one is going on my M1A.

There are a number of ways to go but the 1.5 is FAST, very good in dim light, and usable out to 250-300 yards depending on how well I am holding at the time. Higher powers will have less field of view and more critical eye relief but so far I am extremely pleased with this one.

Std type scope LG - as mentioned the, Vari-x 1.5x5 20mm. Surprisingly even in pretty low light I can get a cross-hair fix adequately.

Barrel is 20" genuine but with brake length included total is 22 1/2"

Can't give you a brand - I bought it from a THR member quite some time ago and all I know is that it was an Imbel based build. I knew he had liked it and to a degree trusted his description - I am glad to say I was not disappointed and have found this an excellent rifle.

I have an L1A1 also which I use with open sights, tho I did change foresight to install a peep with duplex crosswires - which I like.
