I'm having a little trouble finding the mainspring I need for a 9mm Commander. I've found the mainspring pack at Ed Brown (part # 919), but not sure if that's what I need. I'm also planning on ordering a recoil spring (Brownell's # 160-119-206), as per schematics. Again, not sure the weight on this. What ar the spring weights for this pistol? I've heard both 16 and 18 as standard recoil spring. And nothing about the mainspring.

Can anyone point me in the right direction. I anticipate having to fiddle with spring weights, although I'm not too thrilled about it.

I'm also in the hunt for a 9mm slide stop, boy are those scarce. I believe I've found what I need at Wilson (#102BS). The .38super and 9mm spec out the same measurement, correct?

Colt standard 9mm Commander recoil spring is 16 lbs. Adjustments are usually down rather than up, especially in smallbores.

I am pretty sure they use a 23 lb mainspring, same as .45 G.M. but there are a lot of choices and several schools of thought.
1. Use full power GI because it is part of the retardation of the slide along with the recoil spring.
2. Use full power GI because a lot of foreign 9mm has hard primers.
3. Use a lighter spring because it is easier to get a light trigger pull.
4. Use a lighter spring because it causes less wear on carefully honed sear and hammer.

Most of my guns have reduced power mainsprings. I have never had a misfire except with a Springfield before I replaced the titanium firing pin with steel. I think it would have worked with the Ti firing pin if my gunsmith had put in a 19 or 20 lb mainspring instead of 17. I wore the hammer hooks right off a Gold Cup once in very short order after putting in a GI surplus mainspring so as to prevent misfires with a .22 conversion.

9mm slide stop is as listed for .38 Super; at least it is in Colts.

Ok, that clears the waters for me, thanks. From everything I checked out, the slide stops were the same for Colt in the 9mm and .38, just needed confirmation. I get caught "assuming" then have to go back and redo

I like the idea of reduced weight in the mainspring. Our GI is setup that way and it shoots well (not sure how relevant that will be to a 9mm Comm). I've also got a standard mainspring here.
