What Makes A Knife "Tactical"?

In the past decade, there have been upgrades to folders.

Still, a quality fixed blade knife doesn't have multiple parts to fail.

I guess Tactical is like Porn, it can't be defined but I know it when I see it.

I've been pondering these that happened on my desk.

That little razor-blade thing seems pretty tactical. I hear similar was used by the tactical hijackers on 9/11.

It means nothing ... I went through my Randall Made Knives catalog and didn't see the Model 1 - All Purpose Fighting Utility Knife called tactical one blessed time ...

I think a maker uses that word hoping to get you to believe his knife is more than what it realy is .

What does it mean ... Absolutely nothing !

I used to carry one of those Carcano folding bayonets when I was a kid on the streets of South Central Los Angeles.
I don't think that you could cut anything with one of those.
It was more like having a folding crowbar.
Still handy in a fight, though... .

I was looking up knife laws in New Mexico not long ago. I always called my knife a tactical knife, not sure why. Someone might have told me that's what it was considered. So after a lengthy research I figured out that my knife is considered a tactical or combat knife, at least in New Mexico, for a few of reasons. They specified that it is not a double sided blade, a single blade with a sharp point and not folding or retractable in any way, at least four(4) inches in length, and designed for the purpose of defense or combat.
Anyways, we all know the purpose of this discussion. Here's mine.

If it matters to anyone, New Mexico requires that you have a CCW Permit to conceal this, otherwise, you can open carry with the exemption of being on your own property or the property on which you reside (even if not owned), or when traveling on "private means of conveyance".
I was looking up the laws specifically to know what is legal when riding on a moped. I know I can CC guns in a vehicle with no permit, but now I know that it also includes mopeds and bicycles. Tactical Knives also falls under the description of Dangerous Weapons and the laws of carrying apply just the same. Prior to this knowledge I was open carrying my Tactical Knife when on motorcycles, mopeds or bicycles.
I always CC my gun anyways, but now I know I wasn't doing it illegally except as a pedestrian.
It's also worth mentioning that although you can CCW in a vehicle or whatnot, when you step out, if not on your own dwelling property, it is illegal without a permit. Example, pumping gas.
I'm hardly ever a pedestrian anyways. I don't carry when jogging. Whenever I park and have to go into places they are almost always a gun free zone.

I've had it 15 years now. I never thought I would have it this long. Got it for $20 at Big 5, It's been great. It's been used once in a SD. I don't see how where it was made makes a difference in anything. Maybe a USA made one would have taken the guys 4 fingers completely off instead of just hanging by a thread of skin.

In the broad sense any of these cutting tools are "tactical" though the appearance varies. In stray discussion, in the hands of John Wick it is "tactical".

You mean the Gerber Applegate folder on the cover? I have a collection of them in various iterations. I even have a "Covert" in the box signed by Col. Applegate and that he gave to me the year the Covert was released.
