What % of your guns are un-registered?

There's paper on about a quarter of my guns. Another quarter were purchased FTF. The rest I built myself, and don't even have serial numbers, much less paper.

None of mine are registered. This is Wyoming. I can buy an AK, three ARs, a shotgun, and six pistols in one visit and take then home immediately.

As it should be.

None of mine are registered because we don't have gun registration. About half were bought from FFLs, so those could in theory be "traced" if I were dumb enough to leave them sitting outside somewhere unattended.

For God’s sake they don’t even know where half the prisoners that are out on some program are. You must think more realistically, this would be an impossible task, no money and no manpower, along with no will to do this on a local level. Most sheriffs would say , we don't have enough officers to even patrol let alone do no knock warrants on every house. And if they did it selectively, it would be challenged and tossed out by the courts. This is a very unrealistic discussion, You really think that the billions of guns that are floating around are suddenly going to show up in a box at city hall, Paranoia runs deep into your heart it will creep.I want to be a Kardasian, they don't have these problems.

I've bought some from dealers sold some to dealers, bought some privately and sold some privately...the door to door collection thing would be such a nightmare to implement that I find it extremely unlikely it will ever happen in the US.

Let's keep this thread alive.

It helps the sellers to make an extra profit.
More public anxiety = more profit.
If it's not true, then why did so many more guns and ammo sell after the election in 2008?

Need Help from people in Michigan, When I moved away 30 some years ago (Joined the Navy) I had a single shot shotgun my Dad gave me when I was 10, a .308 when I was 14 also from my Dad and a couple of muzzle loaders I'd built from kits.

Since then I've put together a modest collection including Pistols, Revolvers, Black rifles etc... Some bought through FFl's & 4473, some private transactions.

I've had and have CCW's in multiple states and have returned home to Michigan now.

Michigan used to have a requirement for a permit to purchase and subsequent registration of hand guns after purchase.

All of my hand guns were legally purchased outside of Michigan either thru FFL or Private sale. But all legal. I stress legal.

Now I believe Michigan still requires a permit to purchase but they are not requiring the firearm to be presented for registration. I could be wrong but could someone shed some light on that.

I have asked dozens of police (state & county) officers and a couple county prosecuting attorneys I know and can't get a straight answer about the handguns I currently own.

Do I need to register them now that I've returned to Michigan? Do I need to go thru the process of a permit to purchase guns I already own?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

I don't think you will get the advice you want/need here or any where else on the internet, if you can't get a straight answer from any of the people you have already tried. I know what you are going through and my reply does nothing to help but I think you have gone to the head of the matter with no result(s)....

I don't buy guns at "retail', ever. Never filled out a 4473 in my life... in fact I wouldn't know one if I saw it. Dad taught me 50yrs ago to buy almost everything "used" and let the other guy take the retail hit.

I was seriously tempted recently though... local dealer was closing out Browning A-bolts (blue synthetic) for 499.00. But they didn't have the caliber I wanted.

Only time I even enter a gun store is if I have some urgent need for reloading supplies... 99% of that I buy online...

100%...as most others have pointed out, there's no registration, even if bought from an FFL.
N003k- You live in Connecticut. If you have ever purchased any pistols, any rifles from gun stores or gun shows, or rifles from concerned private parties your guns are very much registered (in the most literal sense)- the state police firearms unit and your local CLEO are given full details on each acquisition you make.

100%.

Ohio has no registration and political entities below the state level aren't allowed to have their own gun laws.

Apart from that, most of my firearms were purchased in private sales.

It's none of the government's business what guns I own.

I lost my extensive Gun Collection in a Tragic Boating Accident...:D

Anything I own after that it's molon labe.

And I'am serious about that.
You aren't joking are you! I made a joke of it at first..but then re read the post...you serious? In a boat?

I was told by a local gun dealer, that if there were ever a time where the government wanted to sieze records..that it would be a day they had to call the fire department.
