Just wondering what can interchange between Pietta and Uberti. I understand that conversion cylinders and some other things different between them. But what would be the same?

For example, would the grip handle have the same screw patterns [to the frame] on both? If I had a Pietta birdshead grip that I wanted to put on the frame of an Uberti, would that work? And if one is a blackpowder and the other is a cartridge revolver, would they match up?

So,......it's not like "putting a different slide on a semi auto". They're all different. That's a shame. I have a birdshead snub nose 1851, but would like to put that birdshead on a longer barrel 1851.

Search ebay with "blackpowder Pietta barrel" in sporting goods/hunting for what is for sale. If the 1851 birdshead grip and frame with a short barrel are Pietta, look for a Pietta 1851 7.5 inch barrel that someone is parting out. Make sure it is the same caliber as your current revolver.
This is the only one I found tonight and you probably could buy a whole brasser and swap barrels for what the seller wants:
Pietta 1851 Navy .44 Cal. 7.5" Barrel with Loading Lever Assembly | eBay
If you find the barrel you want, you can recoup some or all of the cost by selling the short barrel on ebay. Shorts turn up much less frequently than standard lengths.

Ephraim, thanks for the suggestion. Didn't think of just getting a different barrel. Good call!

It's two different companies and for the most part even though they are replicas of original guns they are not exactly the same dimensions of the originals. Plus parts of those originals didn't fit different guns anyway because of machining quality (or lack of) from that time period so no exact dimension reference to go by other than design drawings.

I've never tried but as an example will the slide from a Ruger 1911 fit an S&W 1911 or other companies?

If you expand this question beyond just Uberti and Pietta, the answer becomes more complex. I've found some interchangeability between Uberti, Armi San Marco (ASM), and Armi San Paolo (ASP). (Pietta seems to be off by itself in this regard.)

Grips are hardly ever interchangeable, because they are fitted to each individual gun.

I have bought parts for my C&B shooters from a company called VTIGUNPARTS. It has been a while but I think their still in business.

Sometimes. Often not...

I bought both a Pietta and a Uberti bolt when getting parts. On a Pietta '51 that needed a bolt I used the Uberti one, was of better quality. neither were drop in fits.

I think that Uberti is the only company that strives to duplicate firearms exactly as the old firearms of the past.

No they don't, they make what importers want and can sell. There are too many minor details that could and should change on too many models that would cost nothing and take little effort to say they strive to make them exactly like the firearms of the past. Mike Harvey and Cimarron are mostly responsible for many of the Uberti models on the market and for getting the firearms closely resembling the originals. That's why I support Cimarron, if not for them all the other importers wouldn't have all the offerings from Uberti that they do.
