So over the last several months (years) I have been looking for my perfect carry gun. I have been carry a Glock 43 and have been really happy with it. I will still carry it and have no plans to get rid of it. However, with some recent events I wanted something that had more rounds and still be as close to concealable.
I also have back issues so weight is a factor for me. Also as a result of my back issues, running is not an option I have recently found out, so in the unlikely event of being caught up in an active shooter situation my action plan is to get hidden and ride it out if there is no easy exit. Hints the want for more rounds than the 43.
The Glock 19/23 has been at the top of the list, but carrying the 23 is difficult for me. It is a great gun and very reliable, but it just does not carry as well for me. I have had a 26/27 in the past, but that is only 3-4 more rounds. It was something I was still thinking about. However, once you add the extensions on the magazines you might as well just carry a 19/23 in my opinion.
I came across the M&P 9c. It holds 12+1 and like the Glock you can use the 17 round full size magazines. I knew it existed, but I had never looked at them. I have never really heard/notice anyone talk about them. I must say I am actually kind of shocked. I have always heard about the M&P triggers not being as good as Glock triggers and people putting in the apex triggers. I had only dry fired them years ago and was not impressed at the time. The one I picked up actually had a nice trigger, but it is missing the noticeable reset the Glocks have. However, I can fix that with a $23.00 Apex RAM kit. Other than that I would not change anything. I actually like the trigger a lot otherwise, and I am not sure I will change to the RAM part or not.
When loaded the MP9c is going to be under 30 ozs which was a key factor for me. I noticed the mp9c seemed very slim for a double stack so I took a few pictures comparing it to my 43 and this is what really shocked me. There is very little difference in size. The slide is a little thicker than the 43, but that is not really a issue. The 43 does win for being lighter weight and there will be some days that I may need that with my back issues. However, the MP9c conceals as well as the 43 for me with 13 rounds of 9mm. I have tried to make it print and cannot just like the 43. I think I can get over any trigger complaints, and honestly that is something a little bit of practice can solve. I am more accurate with it the a Glock anyway.
For me and my needs this seems as perfect as I can ask for.
