I realize it would be a personal thing, but at what position do you carry IWB? I assume your belly button is 12 o'clock, and small of your back is 6 o'clock.

When I started carrying, I carried in about the 4 o'clock position (which is probably the most common), but eventually settled on 3 o'clock.

In the 3 o'clock position, your arm covers the gun and keeps your cover garment from moving while walking, plus you can still draw while seated in the car (in the 4 o'clock position you're sitting on the gun which makes it much more difficult to draw, and eventually wears a spot on the seat).

I carry my Beretta PX4 at the 4-5 o'clock position. I have a new holster on the way for my Kel Tec P32 that I intend to use for appendix (1-2 o'clock) carry. As soon as the PX4 Subcompact comes out, I'd like to try one of those appendix style, too.

Appendix offers a lot of advantages but does require some adjustments to how your dress (close-front cover garments). I like the idea of having the gun right in front - where the movement can be more furtive if you have to prepare to bring it into play. Like you said, it's all personal but I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

For me it really depends on the gun.

For smaller autos and snubs, it's 3 o'clock, whereas I usually carry at 4:00 to 4:30 if I'm carrying larger or full size guns.

I prefer the 3:00 position, but I simply have trouble concealing the grip at 3:00 with larger guns, so I carry them just behind the hip, which tends to lend itself better to concealment.

Then you just try not to bend over. Crouch instead if you have to pick something up.

1 or 2 o'clock (appendix) carry works best for me, but means sub-compacts only as I have to sit alot which is just plain painful for anything more than a 3" barrel. The grip fits in under the "love handles" and disappears so an untucked T-shirt is all I need as a cover garment. But I also have to move and reach way too much to be able to count on my shirt tail keeping a gun behind me (between 3 and 9 o'clock) covered.

In cold weather (our ~ 3 month "not summer" season when you can actually wear two layers of clothes and not sweat enough to print the gun as the only dry spot on you :) ) I use one of those undershirt shoulder holster rigs you can get form the NRA on-line store with a western style snap front button shirt tucked as a cover garment. Then I can hide compact gun nicely.

I had the feeling most were carrying between 3 and 9 is why I asked, but the replies indicate my plan may work . I bought a H & K P2000SK yesterday, and have a Comp-Tac Infidel holster on the way. I want to carry around 2 or 3 o'clock I think. With certain clothes, I even plan to pocket carry. I think I would be nervous with it on my back. I am glad to read that smaller pistols may be carried the way I am planning.

I carry around 2:30 in tshirt weather and 3:00 in jacket weather. I carry a glock 19 in a FIST IWB canted forward. I usually wear a dark colored large t-shirt for concealment. I don't have large love handles but the grip of my Glock rest firmly against that area to conceal quite well.

I, in most cases, prefer to carry my semi-autos at 4:00-4:30. I prefer to carry revolvers at 3:00-3:30 though.

Either at 1300ish if carryin AIWB or 1600ish if carrying traditional IWB.

I pretty much carry at 2:45 to 3 o'clock. Being that far forward helps me to completely conceal the grip on full size semi-autos--for my body type. I would print really badly any further back. Like Zundfolge, I also like having my arm right above the gun for further concealability .

Using a Galco IWB, carrying my G27 at 2 o'clock is fantastic if standing, but I can hardly sit down, how do you guys do it??

When I carry at 4 o'clock, it's comfortable standing or sitting, but I feel like I'm printing like crazy if only an untucked shirt is hiding it. If I have a jacket on, 4 o'clock (or a paddle holster :)).

My resolution has been to more often pocket carry a j-frame .357! I would love to carry the G27 more, but I can't seem to find the right way...

Great thread though, I'm getting some ideas...

I carry a full size 1911 pretty much exactly like sturmgewehr in his picture. It's not perfect, but nothing is. At 4:00 and beyond, the grip will protrude when you bend down. The only real drawback to the sturmgewehr position is that you get a bit of a bulge on the side, but nobody notices, especially in the day of pda's, ipod's and cell phones.

On the other hand, if I want "deep concealment" I use a small auto appendix carry, about 1:00.

I'm new to this, I've got my first handgun (stoeger cougar) and am waiting on my CFP, but... I've been playing around with an IWB holster and the only place the sizable grip of the cougar doesn't print on me is if I wear it at about 5 o clock. (well, 7 o clock since I'm a lefty). When the gun is more flush with my back the grip doesn't stick out. I'm also 5'8" and about 145, so that makes it even harder for me to conceal. I'm going to get a smaller gun soon obviously.
