What Powder for a Self Defense Load .45 ACP

I tried hard to like 700X, convenient to load 12 gauge and pistols out of the same can. But metering was erratic in CH and Dillon progressives until I learned to hang a vibrator (aquarium air pump) on the measure.

Most of my non-magnum pistol ammo gets HP38 (W231).
Loading flake powders is an "acquired taste". I'll agree there are many other powders that are easier to meter than the flake powders and provide the same results. Heck, Accurate #5 is my back up powder for many cartridges where I like flake powders as the primary powder.

These days, I mostly use a Redding 10-X for handgun loading. It works well with flake powders and even when one is modified for a progressive. But they do have their idiosyncrasies of operation to get the best consistent results.

I have a small charge bar for my Dillon SDB that I load 380 ACP and works well with Unique and 700-X with the small 380 ACP powder charges.

I've reloading with flake powders since 1980, 700-X, Unique and Blue Dot for the most part.

Use the powder that works for you and all will be well with the world.:)

I, for one, will be pleased to hear your favorites.
