I have just started to put together what I need to reload 10mm ammo, which is new to me vs what I have reloaded for many, many years, .45acp, .45 Colt, .454 Casull and .44 Mag & Spl.

What powder do you 10mm reloaders prefer, especially for full power loads? I am not asking for any receipies, just your preferred powder, for Mid-Range/Plinking Loads and Full Power Loads.

If anyone wants to mention their Pet Loads, it will be appreciated.

I love using 800-X for my nuclear loads. It meters like crap though, so drop short and trickle for best/safest results. I use TiteGroup for plinking

You will find 800-X and Longshot recommend the most for full power loads. 800-X does meter very poorly. Which is why I use it in a Chargemaster. I don't load a lot of full power loads so a slight delay waiting for the charge to be thrown isn't a big deal.

For non full power loads I use W231/HP-38. Any of the fast pistol powders will work for this application. Just a matter of how much each round will use.

AA #7 with lighter (sub-180) and AA #9 for heavier (180+) bullets are very good for full-power loads and meter superbly. A comparison of AA's published data and Hodgdon's data show very comparable performance to Longshot and 800X.

I've had good luck with HS-6 and AA#7 under 180 grain bullets for mid-power loads, and now load a lot of Silhouette under 180's for sub-1000 fps rounds.

yep, AA#7, AA#9, and 800X.

THESE LOADS ARE "OVER BOOK"!

--So we'll just leave them out. Feel free to share by PM.--

I use AA#7 to push a 155gr Gold Dot to 1440 fps, AA#9 to push a 200gr hardcast gas-check to 1270 fps, and 800X pushing 200gr Hornady XTP's to 1250 fps.
It you want load data, PM me.

I carry the Hardcast and XTP's alternated when I'm in the woods, and the gold-dot around town when I can conceal the 10.
I tried Blue Dot & Power Pistol, but even with moderate loads the muzzle flash (read fireball) made me check my eyebrows after each shot...

now if you want a fun "bunny fart" 10mm load, try 4.8 gr of Win 231 under a 180gr FMJ. runs about 800 fps, and just barely cycles my Witness Stock 1. I use 5.0 gr W231 to ensure cycling for 3-gun, as the my 10mm is the only full-size pistol I own.

180g Hornady (XTP, HAP) and Longshot. I'm getting 1200 ft/sec out of a G20 without going nuclear. My goal is a load that I can reuse the brass a few times :)

One that is fairly new thats getting some encouraging comments is Alliant BE-86. It's supposed to be excellent in mid-caliber power loads like 10mm, 38 Super and such. The only reason I haven't tried it I can't find a pound locally.

You might keep an eye out.

I prefer good 'ole Bullseye in My.38 Special loads and Unique in my .44 Mag and .44 Special loads.
Been doing it for years and it's hard to "braek loose"

I have my gen. 4 mod 23 stuck on a 16" mech tech upper for steel shooting out back. w/p.pistol and they are ramped up think im @1200+ fps no doubt w/a berbs. 180 f.p. Nice! Lot of noise! im at press wrk./up .38/.357 w/b.e. for a D.Wess. 7in. .357 I would have to check my notes but the p.p. works good for me n .40 .

I haven't loaded any hot 10mm in quite a while...but Blue Dot was what I used and it worked fine. BIG fireball as mentioned...and about 10.5 grains under the 180 Sierra JHP for right around 1250 IIRC. But DO check the modern manuals as that might be considered over max these days. My 10mm experience was back when the Delta Elite's just came out and people weren't aware of how beat up they got (along with all the other guns in that caliber) and before they started to download it.

These days...I'd think Power Pistol might be a better choice, and for sure I'd investigate it before deciding on powders to try. Blue Dot always got a bad rap in 357's where it worked well but pressures spiked unexpectantly at times with light bullets. Full case with heavy bullets in the 10mm should work excellent with Blue Dot if your meter will throw accurate charges.

I have 800x for 180 Gold Dots and 200 XTPs. No problems getting them to shoot how I want. I have some power pistol too, but have not gotten to mess with it yet.

I use AA 7. But if you run full power loads, inspect your brass carefully. You'll start seeing splits around load 2 or 3.

I like PP up to 180s, along with #7.

For 200 & up it's #9.

I've loaded everything from e3 to STEEL in my G20 :)

When I was loading 10mm (literally lasted only a month) I figured out that AA7 was the powder I needed to stay away from. It shot clean, it shot well, but in my gun it quickly showed the flaws of an unsupported chamber in a delta elite. That powder worked really well in mid range right on up as far as I was willing to touch off rounds. I still have intentions of getting and running another 10mm with proper chamber support. I will continue using the AA7 there.

I've got a few pounds of HS-7, and haven't realized the performance it's touted for.

Guess it's moot since it not available anymore.

Loudshot (Longshot) really lives up to its nickname if you try 135g projectile full-power loadings with it. Much more reasonable with 180g.
