I make some of my own holster. I use the vegatable tanned tooling leather. That stuff is great to work with but it soaks up water like a sponge. So...I have treated my holsters with Sno-Seal brand wax. Well, this works great on hiking boots, soaks into vegatable tanned leather really well, and if you really work on it, buffs up pretty good. Water beads up and runs off like made. So far so good.

I just made a pancake style holster (first one) for my Glock 17 and the stuff is pretty sticky and once holstered, the G17 is pretty much glued in place...at least in terms of drawing with one hand. I think my holster is too tight but the wax is what is really sticking.

So, what do you guys/gals who make or take good care of you holsers use to treat it?

I also make holsters, and do the preliminary oiling with Crisco Pure Vegetable Oil from the grocery store.

Following that, I use one coat of Feibings Leather Sheen.

Pancake holsters have a bad habit of getting too tight once curved to fit your body by the belt.

Your best hope now is to build up the high spots on the gun with a couple layers of blue masking tape, then wet the holster with hot water.

Put the gun in a plastic grocery bag and wear the gun/holster until it dries to fit the gun in the normal carry configuration.

I also like Camp-Dry Silicone boot spray for slicking up a slightly tight fitting holster and prevent gun sticking.

Thanks RCModel

I am making another Pancake and I will try that. I am making a pancake for my M&P45 now. I will try to let it loosen up.

I am a big fan of Fiebings but the local Tandy is selling less and less of their stuff for environmental reasons...which is kind of dumb at the level of leathercraft.

I will give that a try.

I like to use Kiwi neutral shoe polish for the inside of sheaths and holsters.
On the outside I like to use a 50/50 solution of Liquitex Matte Varnish and water.
Don't like the glossy finish you get with other products.
