I am reading a novel by Norman Maclean and would like to figure out what revolver he was carrying. In it he says that he carried a .32-.20 revolver. The year was 1919. The only clue I have from the story is that it was on a .45 frame. Would this mean that it was a Colt single action army? They were made in .32-.20 and I believe it was designed for the .45? Any help would be appreciated.

The SAA has always been my assumption. Are you reading "The Ranger The Cook and the Hole in the Sky?" I love that story.

The ranger, Bill Bell, was known to Elmer Keith. He mentioned Bell on page 130 of "Sixguns". I think that's pretty interesting.

That is story and I love it also. I at first assumed it was a S&W but when he said it was on the .45 frame I assumed it meant SAA. Thanks for the reply. I will check out the other reference to Bill Bell.
