Bought a gun off of Gunbroker.com

Not this one exactly - but one exactly like it.

My price was much better on a as new rifle.

I have never shot a little lever like this before. Also, this is my first .44 mag in any caliber.

Like many of you - I am excited about receiving and shooting it.

Never having had a bigger caliber revolver I don't know much. What would you recommend to go with this? (Something to fit the period flavor and caliber)

If it's a .44 Mag Lever Gun, then your budget & preferences will determine it's prime revolver companion. Quick answer, DA-S&W 29 or SA-Ruger Super Blackhawk. But budget can allow/require (depending on direction) Freedom Arms or Taurus.

If you just want a plinking/playing cowboy lokoing gun, then find a Ruger Vaquero in 44mag. If you want a cowbow looking gun that is more suited to hunting, then find a nice Ruger Blackhawk/Super Blackhawk. If you don't mind a more modern looking gun that is killer to hunt with and just plain fun to shoot, look into the S&W offerings in that caliber. Just a few thoughts...

Yeah, but congrats! At $400-500 you're on the relatively high end of used gun territory. Shop hard & smart, you should be able to find a peach of a .44 mag. for those bucks. Good Luck.

Here is the corrected link

Given that you are getting a big loop you almost have to go with a SAA style gun.

Agreed with others - get a Ruger Blackhawk, you can't really go wrong and nice used ones can be found in the $350 range regularly.

Good score.

I think revolver would be a good match.

You should be able to get a Ruger New Vacquero for $500. Good gun.

If you want to stay with 44mag it well need to be the old Vaquero, no 44 in the 'new' model. Any of the Ruger 44's would go well with it, sa or da. My choice would be a sbh.

If you ever want to scope your winchester it will require an Extended
eye relief scope mounted ahead of your top ejection port.

That's a reason why I went with eh Marlin 1894 with it's
side ejection action.

Enjoy your lever gun. - oh, btw, in the Marlin manual it
states the range of cartridge O.A.L. that will function in the
transfer from the tubular magazine to the chamber. If the
rounds are too short or too long, they will fail to feed. One
other thing is with the tubular magazine you should NOT use
bullets that are pointy - it might cause a primer to be activated
and a chain fire of rounds in the tubular magazine might mess
up your gun, and day as well.
But most .44 Magnum bullets are pretty flat faced.

I'd want a 4" model 29/629 Mountain gun in either a
Cross draw or a shoulder rig, so the rifle wouldn't whack
a strong side carry. No need for a longer barrel with the
long tube of the lever gun available
