I really don't like the iron sights on my Marlin model 60. So what scope should I put on it? I only need it to a distance of 25 yards.

It's a fairly skinny and light gun, so I'd want something that wouldn't make it too topheavy.

I'd either go for a reddot sight or a 1x or 2x shotgun scope (they tend to be compact, but can cost as much if not more than the Model 60), certainly nothing larger than 32mm obj.

A reddot is probably going to be your lightest, cheapest, and best option for the distance you are shooting.

Do they make peep sights or any aftermarket sights for that gun? 25yds doesn't require much in the way of magnification unless you are sniping flies. ;)

I fitted an old Herters 3 x 9 to mine and there it has stayed!!! Way more scope than needed I guess but .. it does very well .. absolute tack driver.

I had thought of ''red dotting'' but to be honest, this works so well I doubt it'll be possible to improve on it.

IIRC Chris (MTNBKR) saw that rifle when he was over last Oct for a shoot .... not sure if he tried it tho.

Pretty much any scope will help ... and hell .... 25 yds?! Take out the ''x'' ring!!

Last summer, I took a 3-9x40 scope off my Marlin 60 that had been on it for ages (fully planning to put if back on) and realized how handy of a rifle it was without the added bulk.

The rifleless scope is now eyeing the Remington 597 .22WMR. :D

I have been happy with my Leupold 2x7 Rimfire Special on my Ruger 77/22. However, if I ever have the money to spend on it, I would like to mount a long eye relief scope forward of the action, scout style. I spent a day a few years ago hunting jack rabbits with a 10/22 set up with a pistol scope in a kloodged mount clamped and epoxied to the barrel and fell in love. Mounting the gun and getting a sight picture was more like shotgunning than rifle work.

I put a super cheap $15 Tasco on my Marlin 60 and its just fine for plinking.

I figured $15 was enough to spend on a $100 rifle!:)

Where on earth does one find a Holosight that'll mount to a 3/8" dovetail? Not long after buying my 60, I bought one of those BSA Red Dot sights that Wally World carries. I wasn't happy when I found that the thing wouldn't mount.

P.S. If anyone out there has the means to produce a 3/8" dovetail to Weaver/ Picatinny mount, it'd be a pretty marketable thing... :)

Try any of the 'holosights' made for BB guns for the 3/8 in. dovetail...ie: Daisy, Crossman, etc. from the big box S-Marts. I found one years ago for something like $9 US that worked fine until I traded my extra Marlin 60 to my little brother for a nice set of golf clubs.

Several years ago, I bought a closeout Tasco reddot sight that had a 1" tube (they also had a model with a 30mm tube). That way, any set of rimfire rings for a 1" scope could be used to mount it. I put it on my BSA Supersport springer and promptly shook it to pieces (about 20 shots!).

my 30 dollar Simmons Blazer red dot has a weaver rail on one side
you flip the clamp over and its a 22lr rail mount on the other side

i have a 10/22 and also a model 60. the ruger is a little tricked out with a heavy barrel and stock combo and i have a bushnell 3x9x40 scope on it, however on the m60 i bought a tasco 4power scope with the rings built into it for $4 brand new and i can shoot sweet gum balls out of the tree from 40 yards away with this super cheap setup.

I went the other way.

On my Model 60 I put a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40mm. It cost more than the gun!

I didn't buy the scope for the gun though, it was bought for another rifle, but didn't work out. It works great on the marlin though. I always meant to replace it with a cheap little '22' scope, but....they're a good team.
