What scope/sights (under $100) would you recomend for a new Marlin 39a?

I just picked up a Marlin 39a. It's everything I had hoped it would be with the exception of the fixed sights. What's up with the folding rear sight anyhow? I'd like some recomendations for scopes or sights for this gun. Thanks.

I have always had a receiver sight on my Marlin 39A, but I put a Weaver 2x7 rimfire scopy on my Green Mountain barreled 10/22. $120 at Natchez Shooters Supply and other places.

Great rifle! I prefer to mount 1" scopes on my rimfires, but I strongly suggest that you use a scope made for rimfires so that you can focus close. I have an old Weaver K6 on a bolt gun, and it is fuzzy on a shot closer than about 25 or 30 yards. For squirrel hunting, you need something that is sharp from 20 feet to infinity!

I just checked the S.W.F.A. sample list, and there is a Bushnell rimfire scope shown for 49.95 that retails for $175. If you haven't dealt with S.W.F.A. before, you should get to know them. They are a super company to deal with. (www.swfa.com)

S.W.F.A. sells closeouts, demo's, etc. from a site that they call their "Sample List." If you can find what you want there, you win. That site address is www.samplelist.com

Good luck!

Nice rifle tparker. I'd recommend a Marble's Tang Sight. IMHO, they are way more aesthetically pleasing on a levergun than a scope and they function very well. (I like my firearms to look as nice as they shoot. That's one reason I'd never own a Glock. :) )

I've got a Marbles tang sight on my 9422 and it looks and functions great. It looks like they've gone up a bit in price since I bought mine though. Brownells has them for $125. Here's an article at Gunblast that shows how to install it if you are so inclined.

the folding leaf sight is there so that you can put a scope on it that has a larger bell for gathering light...at least thats what I always thought it was for, it folds down to adjust the eye relief and allows the bell of the scope to fit.

anyhow,Ive got a bushnell sportview on mine. 3-9x wide view.I paid 78 bucks for it new...I prolly paid too much but I had the same model on a mossberg chuckster varmiter and it worked out great as well.got a 39A sitting here too, I first learned to hunt with an ol mountie 39M that my dad bought when I was young.too bad they arent made anymore.lotsa gun makers putting plastic in everything these days.

anyhow, congrats on your 39, youll enjoy it for years to come. :)

I also put the weaver rimfire 2.5-7 scope on a 10/22 its a very nice scope clear and bright, made in Japan, and is smaller and lighter than a standard scope. Its also parlax adjusted for 50 yards which is ideal for a .22 rimfire rifle.

A lyman tang sight is certainly prettier on a lever gun though.

I'm voting for a Lyman rear aperture, I really like them. You might remove the folding rear sight and fill the dovetail with a blank from Brownell's or something if you felt like it, I tend to think it makes everything less cluttered looking.
