hello folks , new to the forum and i need some help .i know this is a question that will probably have many different answers but i need to start somewhere, what make and model shotgun would you recommend for deer hunting. I know nothing of shotguns so please feel free to tell me the every detail .I liked the look features of a benelli 12 gauge super black eagle II I comfortech but i think that may be out of my price range i would try to keep it under 700.00 if possible but not definate.

I have two or three shotguns but when I want to kill something deer sized, I have a single shot H&R slug gon. It has a rifled barrel and is reasonably accurate with 3" Winchester slugs. My best shot was on an anterless white tail @ 125 meters. Slug loads are incredibly lethal. They are cheap and effective but not pretty. Here we hunt in pretty heavy bush (or at least I do) so you need something that carries well. The doe I shot was standing on a slough bottom. She dropped like a stone.
Haffordite.

I've suppose it would depend on rather you'll be using slugs or buckshot. Either way you don't NEED a really expensive shotgun for deer hunting, unless you happen to want one. I've used the same Sears/Mossberg 500 for about 30 years with good results. I paid $99.00 for it way back when. I think they're about $250.00 or so now (Mossberg, Sears of course hasn't sold guns for years). Mine came with a slug barrel at that price. I'm not sure if they do or not anymore. I've never used the slug barrel, since all my deer hunting has been with buckshot.

It might sound like a "no answer" but most any shotgun, at least 20 ga, but I think 12 ga is better, will work for deer hunting. You can spend as much or as little as you want.

I use an 11-87 with a cantilever fully rifled barrel. I was amazed at how accurate it is.

Any standing deer under 50 yards can be taken fairly easily with a bird barrel shooting foster type slugs. 25 yards maybe on running deer.

Lots of range practice will determine how far you can accurately shoot. Invest in some sort of recoil pad for your shoulder and one for the butt of your shotgun. I use a sims limsaver on my 870 and it takes the sting right out of the recoil.

Figure out the realistic range that you will be using the shotgun and go from there.

I use a 870 with 20" rifle sighted barrel (it's a smooth bore, improved cylinder choke). It works great up to about 50yds for me. Farther than that and I start to lose confidence. I stand hunt in pretty dense woods so 25 yards is about all I have needed so far.

I am debating getting a longer range alternative. A rifled bore and cantilever scope mount would push that range out further.

I think you'll have a tough time finding a super black eagle for <$700. You could probably find a remington 1100 or 1187 used and pick up a cantilever barrel for $700 easy though.

I've deer hunted for 40+ years. Used about everything you can use. At this point, I've got an 870, rifled barrel with a 1.5x6 B&L scope with flip caps. I sight in at 125 yards, and it will typically print golf ball (or slightly larger) 3 shot groups off a bench. It's the bottom one

A rifled barrel with sabots about doubles (or maybe more) your effective range.
