Hi, I've been looking at getting a shotgun for HD, preferably a Rem. 870 express. The problem is I can't afford to just buy it out right. Thinking about trading my Ruger p90. I think handguns are good for home defense, but wondering if it's wise to part with one to get HD shotgun.

if you are strictly using the gun for home defense, it is really difficult to beat a shotgun... as far as the price issue, look at the new NEF pardner pumps.. they are a great value, all steel recievers, and part for part as good as any remington, winchester, or mossberg. and they are available for less than the others used... $249 and you can get a synthetic stock in any configuration you could imagine.. just my .02

I probably just opend a huge can of worms....

The only way I would get rid of a gun is if its unreliable or I absolutely needed the money and had no other options. Besides that I plan on taking them to my grave. IMO you should save up for what you want then you wont have to give up one of your guns. You can always save money buying used, but if you plan on using it for HD make sure it functions properly and is 100% reliable. Best of luck.

A hundred in the bank here, another there (Keep it up a while) and voila! whatever you want in the gunshop after a time of saving.

If you can'tg afford what u want, buy used.My old mossberg has never missed a lick, and I bought it used years ago.Mossy's and Remingtons age well.
