I finally got what I think is a good revolver. A Ruger Super Redhawk in Stainless, 44 Mag and 7.5 inch barre. I put a Simmons ProHunter 2-6 x 32mm Stainless scope to match. I went to the range today to sight it in. Off a rest @ 25 yards the best I could do was a 2-3 inxh groups. I was having to squat down because the table was too low. What should I expect to get. Am I expecting too much? The load I am shooting is a 240 gr. LSWC with 10.5 grs. of Unique and WLP primer. I know this is a hunting revolver and not a target pistol. I get 1.5" groups with open sight with my Smith Mdl. 14 in 38 Spl.

i rest my forearms on summtin & get comfortable , never lettin the revolver touch anything.

If i do my part my r
Redhawk with a 1-4x burris will do 31/2 " at 100.
my choice of hunting load powders are HERCO, 296/h110 , IMR4227 & 2400
& check the cyl throats , they need to be + .001 bigger than bore for lead , then boolit .001 bigger than cyl.
shootin lead is all about fit

but before condeming anything get comfortable !!!

I would think that you can get groups as good as with your S&W 14 ---- tinker with your load and make sure ALL the screws for the scope are tabbed with some Locktight {blue}.

It should do better. Tweak some things and experiment. As GP100man posted, bullet fit is critical with lead to stop leading, which will ruin accuracy. Sometimes a different bullet or powder will make a big difference.

I once had a SBH with a Redfield 2X-6X pistol scope mounted that would cloverleaf at 25 yards. I had a friends 55" SRH that I sighted in with handloads to do the same.

I strongly suspect that your squatting affected your accuracy but I feel you could expect almost the same results with your SRH as I got.

I quit using Unique and swapped over to W231 to get the above results.

Good luck

I went to the range today and got a little better withn 2400. I will load up W231 and see what happens. I found a higher table and didn't have to squat so much.

Try some AA #9, or N110 if those results don't suit you.

Never mind, you are shooting medium loads. Try N340.

I get better groups than that with my Redhawk with open sights, but remember, all guns have favorite loads. Just because you like the a 240 gr. bullet and Unique powder doesn't mean your SRH will like it. Try another recipe or try factory loads.
