I have the opportunity to get either an m1 garand or a .22 rifle AND a 1911. What should I get? I have a short (19" barrel) sxs 16 guage and a 30-30 lever already.

I had to change this because the remington was sold, so now I can't afford it. So on the poll substitute ".22 rifle" for Remington 870 please :)

I've traded/sold all my other guns so far :p I want different ones LOL

They still make 870's and 1911's. They don't make M1 Garands anymore. I want a 1911 too but I'm going to wait until next year to get a 100th anniversary version.

I went through the same dilemma. I went with the Garand. The only drawback is cheap ammo for the M1 is drying up quick. You'll probably have to handload eventually because of costs. If you don't care for the historical appeal of the M1 and just want it as another rifle, then you're probably set with your 30-30.

Either way, all three guns would be a nice addition to any collection.

Just my $0.02

If it were me, I'd go with the Garand, but I think you'd love having a 1911. Great for HD along with the 870.

Yep. I'd have to say the M1 as well. You can get a 1911/870/.22 anytime anywhere, but the M1s are alot harder to find. Especially if its in really good condition.

.22 and 1911, because you will be able to shoot them more. But get a Garand soon if you want one, like within the next year.

Well I love rifles, and they don't make the M1. This one for me is a no-brainer. M1! However, what kind of 1911 are we talkin. I could do without the 870.

I voted Garand, but there are other considerations, IMO.

What kind of 1911? What shape is the Garand in? How correct is it? What is the barrel like?

You can a Winnie M1 for $695 now from the CMP for what that's worth.

What do you want it for?
Without knowing what you want the weapons for every post here is just our own personal wish list.

Get an 870 with some reach. Shooting clays is cheap and ridiculously fun. It's even cheaper if you aren't any good because you can pick the clays back up once the range is clear. I shoot on my own land so if I'm picking them up I don't have to worry about me shooting over my head.
