I've decided to put new iron sights on my Marlin 795 .22 - any suggestions? These are mostly for plinking and metal swinging targets- no fancy target shooting, and probably not hunting- I have a scoped 10/22 that I'd take first. I do like peep sights. I don't really want a scope- the Marlin has a crappy scope rail.

Try a mid-peep. Simply solder a flat half-disk of metal to the back of the existing rear sight, and drill through it.

It should be close to the original zero when you re-install it, and take only minor adjustments. You can experiment with different diameter apertures (if you get it to big, simply replace it with another one.)

For a temporary fix, you can use epoxy and save the soldering for the final diameter.

My eyes are getting too old for iron sights these days but .. Vern has a great suggestion there... peep sights rock!

If you keep an assortment of washers ... could just be there's one which is like a small fender washer .... quite large dia' (maybe 3/8) but small hole ... that could give a good starting point.

Peeps allow for quick target aquisition and seem amazingly ''forgiving'' too ...... they were all I used for my earliest long range rifle competition shooting in early 60's ... Parker Hale target sights admittedly.

Williams makes a rear peep sight that fits on a .22-style dovetailed receiver. One of their front "firesights" might help, too.

Another alternative is a red-dot "holograph" sight that fits the .22 dovetail.

Either would provide quick acquisition of moving targets.

Regards.

I'll second the Williams FireSights. I have a Marlin Model 60FS that came from the factory with the fire sights (front and rear). Very nice. I like 'em so much I bought a comperable set of TruGlos for my shot gun and my sons 20ga. SG.

I'll give another vote to the williams peeps.. With firesight fronts; and a peep rear, I cut my groupings by 50% compared to the cruddy iron sights on my 10/22.

They rock! And I feel like I turned my 10/22 into a mini-M1A.

Not to sound like a broken record, but the Williams peep rear and firesight front are the way to go.
