What the heck is up with used gun prices?

Lots of good valid points... but don't forget inflation is also kicking in. The dollar is dropping like a stone in value... sigh.

If someone puts a $1000.00 price tag on an SKS, it means that person thinks THAT SKS is worth that much. Rather you agree or not is up to you.

By contrast, I'd say that if someone puts a $1000 price tag on an SKS, it means that person thinks YOU'RE AN IDIOT. He might be right, but that's up to you.

Just an alternate take on the 'free' market.

The dollar is worth more now than it was 9 months ago. It's worth half what it was before GW Chimp took over the White House. Are people's memories really that short?

I agree on the high prices, but the current market continues to support them.

What gets me is a piece offered at a reasonable price and some guy tries to lowball you with a rediculous offer.

I have that going right now-what a waste of time and breath.
Seems compulsory for some, though.

Maybe you should check your sources.

The dollar has steadily decreased in value almost every year when compared to the previous years CPI.

If you are comparing the US dollor to the Euro it has decreased more rapidly because the Euro is still gaining ground and becoming more accepted as a monetary standard.

The Fed under Big-O is printing money as fast as they can and we are having negative growth which compounds the problem.

Unfortunately the reality of what we are doing to our dollar with the policies of the last 6 months will not be known completely for years.

In 2007, the inflation rate was about 4.08%. This was higher than any year since 1990. In 2008, the inflation rate was 0.09%, the lowest rate since 1954! Consumer prices in the US peaked in July of 2008, and by January of 2009, prices had actually declined by about 4%.

Well, I'm not a complete idiot. I just laughed and walked away. I watched about a dozen other people walk past, shake their heads and move on. Even if it had been signed by frickin' Nikita Khrushchev, it wouldn't have paid that much for it.

SKS prices in particular went nuts, at least in NC. I think this is because it is probably the rifle most frequently burried in PVC pipes at the moment :p . The craziness seems to have hit it's peak just this past winter, when the average SKS was selling readily for $500 - 600 in my parts.

Kinda sucks for those that paid $600, as SKS prices have plummeted back down into the $275 - $350 range since this spring.

You do realize that Bush handed out more bailout money in 2 months than Obama has done in 6, right?? Bush even agreed to hand out more than twice as much as Obama has done... in a third of the time. Get YOUR facts straight!

The banking and insurance industries are two industries that should NEVER run out of money. And when they get TRILLIONS from a CONservative, like Bush... why doesn't the little guy deserve a handout? If things are that bad that we need to steal $130,000 from every homeowner in America [over the course of 10 years] and give it to the Corporatocracy, then by God... we all need a hand out.

when ACORN comes knocking on your door you say no and turn away. they aren't law enforcement. you say no, then get rid of all of the evidence, by either hiding the gun really really good or burying it. all the ammo goes for the wayside too. every last little .22 cartridge that you may find in your junk drawer. gone. poof. remember? when the ban came into effect you sent all of your gusn in to get melted to a metal shop that had no paperwork. (hypothetically)

I cant speak for the nation , but in my experience out west here , face to face deals are bringing a slight premium . IMHO this is due to many folks fears that the .gov is using the background check as a de-facto registration database . Some people i know pass background , and know have several guns already will pay a bit more for a face to face deal so the gun is " off the books " . Just food for thought on the apparent closing of value between new and used guns .
