I just pulled some 45 rounds, recouped the powder. I know what kind and type it was. And had basically had primed cases. I wanted to reduce the charge down about 8% or .5 grains. In the recouped powder I would find small pieces of tumbling media.

Any ideas how it gets in there...I mean I tumble then resizes etc. I would have thought when the old primer is removed any remaining media would get pushed out then.

I don't think it is a problem, it should be burned up when the charge is ignited. I have to guess that it was in the case so charge weight/volume would not be effected. It should be noted that I am not talking about a large amount here. Just the occasional flake of medium now and again.

Anyone else make this discovery?

It's amazing how those tiny little orbs of organic scrubber stick to the interior volume of an otherwise empty case. Work a little harder at clearing all the media by putting several hundred cases in a net bag and shaking it vigorously for a while. Or until your spouse makes you shut the racket up. For as long as you shake the bag, more will come out.

You can strive to get every last grain out, but as ants implied you might be wasting your time. IMO, your intuition is correct, "I don't think it is a problem ...". It is a non-problem.

How many flakes of your powder comprise .5gr? My guess is those occasional flakes won't amount to anything.

As long as you just had a couple of kernels of media, it's no big deal. Like Mal H said, a non problem. A nice sized clump would be another matter entirely.

Ya I took it out before I dumped it back in....it just got me wondering about the ones that where loaded and then shot. Not knowing it was in there.

But I am sure its no big deal if I had not pulled those I would not have even known.

I did the saucer/tweezer routine several times when I was first learning to load shotgun shells. I did not have the automated wad feeder attachment.

Do you use polish in your tumbler,and if so do you let the tumbler run a while after adding the polish,but BEFORE adding the cases?
Could be what is causing it,could just be a small nusiance type of thing.

The medium is walnut with rouge. How about this, just charge the case. Put a crimp on it and you have environmentally safe bird shot.
