I have bought out several reloaders over the years and ended up with some
heavy bullets for 223-556 rifles but when you load them by the book, they
won't fit the magazine or the chamber of the AR, they won't even fit into the
chamber of the model 700 remington 223 tactical.
For the example is the 75 grain ELD Match.
Got so many different ones that are like this, wondering what I can do with
them. Can't even load the 75 grain one at a time.
I don't use heavy bullets, just 55 grain sierra hp, and my Sone bought out
a fellow that had lots of heavy bullets, not sure what to do with them.
I know lots of you are more into heavy and long 223 bullets just by what
all I have seen on here over the years. How do you do it?

They go great in a bolt. The 77 is generally the heaviest for 2.260 oal for ar type guns. I use 80s in my match gun and would happily trade for brass or something else. The hornaday 75 loads great with tac in an ar or mini at mag length

AR's with a Wylde or 5.56 chamber will accept longer bullets singly loaded. I'm not that familiar with all .223 bolt guns, but my Savage Model 10 has a pretty short chamber. It also has a 1:9 twist so I've never considered loading 80 SMK or equivalents in it. I'm thinking most bolt guns are 1:9 or slower and have short .223 chambers also.

Those 75 ELD-M are interesting. I load Hornady 75 HPBT's to mag length and love them. The tip must make them longer, don't know.

Bolt guns are whatever barrel you spin on. Northland had a 1:7 shilen that I love. Havent tried an 88 or 90 because I dont see an advantage of weight over the loss of speed.

I did seat until it closed on the 700 but, best I can remember, it went into the ogive where it wouldn't
crimp safely.

Depending on the charge. If near max, break them down. Determine what your max length will be and work up. If it chambers and don't fit the mag, use a Bob-sled.

Since the bolt is not closing. Tear them down and start over. By first determine you OAL. If you know the twist rate on your barrel, see if you have a chance to stabilize it. If it want stabilize, trade off, PIF. Those heavy bullets I shoot in my 224V.

Well at least you tested every possible combination. You could still single feed them into the ar. The kids do that sometimes on the long range during military shoots.

There are a couple mag manufacturers that provide extra length COAL.

Work up the load, but you could load to mag length while checking for pressure signs.

....or trade for your favorite 55 grainers.

Always wanted a 22-250 anyhow but I have to many -wants- on my plate right now.
Thanks for the advice, mostly AJC1.

Something is out of whack if a 75 ELD/A-max can’t be seated deeply enough to chamber without slipping the ogive. No, it won’t fit into AR mags, but it should chamber easily in any 223 Rem spec chamber. Your throat is way too short if you were running into the lands before your bolt would close.

The 77 was designed specifically to be an ar mag length heavy. The 69 is arguably the bullet to run.

The 77 SIERRA MATCHKING, yes. Not all 77’s.
