I bought a Winchester 1400 from cabelas for the porpuse of refinishing the stock. I just wanted a practice stock. After finishing the stock now I am stuck with a 12 gauge with 3 round capacity limit, 2-3/4" shell only , 28 inch barrel, and a fixed choke. I have a dedicated home defence maverick 88 that I am absolutely in love with, and a beretta 390 for hunting. What do I do with it?

I have been on a "mall ninja" shotgun kick lately so one option is to turn it into a "tacticool" truck gun. I am really not sure what kind of hunting I would do with a 2-3/4" fixed choke barrel. Maybee I will just sell it.

Sounds like a great dove gun to me. What's the choke?

One of the Geezers likes 1400s, he has a couple. One for trap, one just because.

The 1400 is one of the softer shooters out there and for me at least, points well.

Don't sell it yet or Bubba-ize it. Shoot it a bit and see how it works for you.

Sorry, the choke is full. I may just get it opened to a wider paterning choke and use it for informal skeet shooting.

Great pheasant gun there.

Tasty tasty birdies. :)

I love my 1400 for breakin clays, but I have a interchangeable choke. I agree it is one of the softer shooting 12ga autos out there, that's actually why I bought it. Although I don't know what I'd do with a fixed full choke other than opening it up as you plan.

Opening up the choke would be a fine idea. Briley could probably fit tubes, but it's probably not worth it. With something like modified choke, it would be a good, general purpose upland gun.

sounds like a completely useless gun to me, better send it to my FFL so that i can dispose of it properly

try to find a new barrel or have the coke opened up, 2 3/4 inch shells arent much of a limiting factor for the hunting i do

I picked up a left-handed 1400 in 12 gauge, mainly because I liked the case that it came with. Dies anyone know if you can reverse the safety back to righty?

a 1400 Mk II

I always considered these under appreciated guns. My dad had a major problem with pump shotguns due to an arthritic elbow. I found him a 12 gauge Winchester 1400 Mk II for hunting and home protection because he could operate it. As a bonus, I got it for less than $200. It has a 28" barrel, God-awful wood with impressed checkering, and a single screw-in choke, improved cylinder. I had the stock shortened and a new recoil pad put on for him. He liked it. As others have said, it's soft shooting.

Dad's gone now and although the Winchester had no sentimental value - it was just a tool for him - I've kept it. I put on an Uncle Mike's slip-on pad since the length of pull was too short for me. I don't hunt with it; I have a Benelli Nova for that, but that 1400's my upstairs HD scattergun.

I have a 1400 that I bought in the mid 70's. It has interchanagable chokes & is a joy to shoot. I use it for quail & clay pigons mostly.
