Hey all,

So I just got a new lower with MOE grip. It's got the little storage space in the grip (with end cap) so I feel like it must be utilized. Rather than a survival/SHTF scenario I am just thinking of general utility, as in stuff that would be nice to always have around with the gun. At the range, in the woods, etc.

I am thinking of getting a little ziploc bag for water-proofing (but maybe the grip is already pretty water-proofed...anyone know?) then putting in one of those mini bottles of CLP, a spare battery for the red dot, and a quarter (which works to tighten the red dot mount, since pay phones don't exist anymore). What else may be useful? If anyone else has this grip and stores stuff in there, let me know! It looks like a lot of space in there but it probably fills up quick.

Some other ideas...

First aid: bandaids, antibiotic ointment, burn gel...in case you get scratched or cut or a hot piece of brass burns you!

Couple extra rounds of ammo: not sure what for. Saw it suggested on another forum. Maybe a special type of round, different than your regular mags are loaded with.

More cleaning stuff: small brush, some patches, toothpicks, q-tips. If you wanted to actually do some more thorough field-cleaning.

Snack: You know, in case you get hungry at the range. My favorite is Riesens but they may melt :scrutiny:

Other junk: small zip-ties, mini-roll of duct-tape, spare contact lenses (you'd be surprised how often mine almost fall out at the range (probably from forgetting to blink)...they haven't yet, but they've come close.

Things I store in various grips and stocks: batteries for lights & optics, ear plugs, zip ties for securing pressure pad cables, 550 cord, cut down Allen wrench for picatinny accessories. What goes where depends on what is attached to the rifle, and what it is being used for.

Oh I like the idea of a lens cloth since that isn't something i normally think to bring. Also ear plugs, always a good idea because with my brain I'd take my AR all the way out to a friend's farm to shoot and forget plugs. Thanks for the responses guys!

I second MrCleanOK's list: earplugs, batt, paracord, zip tie, allen wrench.

How much paracord is useful? What is the potential utility? I mean, aside from just about anything!

On my work rifle, I use 550 cord for securing sensitive and high dollar items. Also makes handy improvised sling attachments.

Spare batteries for the Aimpoint ML2 on one, a broken shell extractor on the "match rifle".

A condom. You never know when you'll hook up with someone!

Fishing hooks and line.

Salt and pepper for cooking and eating your kills in the field.

Bubble gum. Just because I like bubble gum.

A memory card. Don't know what for, but it'll fit.

A good luck charm, if you're into that.

A rosary.

A Type 1 phaser, if you're a Trekkie.

:):)

RetiredUSNChief,

That first one is a dead give away! You'd have had to have been a Chief to think of "first things first!" Thats why I liked the Navy, us guys think alike!
