What to put in AR Grip Storage

On my wife's CAR-15, I put in a MRE Tabasco bottle full of Tetra gun lube, a pull-thru cord, a pull thru jag, a few patches, a scraper tool made from an old stripper clip.

I don't own an AR, but I have a few long guns with grip storage compartments. In my M17S I keep a Bore-Snake, a fire-steel, and a couple extra rounds of 5.56NATO. The scattergun grip contains one 3" Brenneke Black Magic Magnum (doubt that would be of much use in your firearm), some fishing line w/ hook, and a fire-steel. IIRC the others are devoid of accouterments at the present time (mostly because anything that would fit would be of little utility for range rifles).

:)

I was going to say I bet a 22 cal boresnake would fit in there and likely NOT fall out or add much weight.

Rob, if you fold the swab/brush portion and wrap the line around itself in a spiral fashion it will jamb in the grip nicely. If you want to add other accessories just put it along with the other items in a nylon sunglasses pouch (the type that comes with most high-end sunglasses and has a cord w/ cord-lock at top) and it will still hold well and serve to hold the other items as well. Mine has stayed put in my M17S (which is similar to the AR A2-style grip) for years now, and doesn't have a plug/door on the bottom.

:)

In my grip i keep a spare bolt, firing pin and cotter pin. In my foregrip i keep spare flashlight batteries. In my vltor stock i keep spare aimpoint battery and patches although a bore snake sounds like a good idea. CLP does too if i can make it fit.

One of my favorite things about my AUG is it comes with a complete cleaning kit to keep in the butt of the stock. It has patches, oil bottle, brush, jag and pull string. I can also squeeze a few spare batteries i there.

I had 3 rounds of ammo and a fireing pin. I think I forgot they were in there when I sold it.

If we are talking emergency stuff, how about a lighter. Can get wet, unlike matches. You are going to want a fire to cook up those nice fishies caught with the line and hook. Make it one of those mini Bic's to save room for your gummi bears.

On the topic that some of us have been on in other AR threads, how about a copy of "the chart" so you can ridicule other people at the range with lesser AR's? LOL :D

In all seriousness, I like the idea of ear plugs. There have been several times at the range where thought I had a good set, but didn't, and had to go digging in the bottom of the range bag for some old crusty used ones. Eww!!!
