Hey all,

I just bought some lapua .308 brass, and while uniforming the flash holes I noticed a lot of burrs on the inside of the flash hole.

Anyone have a good tool for this?

Thanks for the help

What!!!? Lapua brass with burrs?:D

I'd used a 1/4 drill bit, and lightly twist it until the surface is smooth, or get the proper tool above:)

Ok, that Lyman product is what I'm using right now, so I feel like a simpleton (not the first time). While I've successfully made nice round little flash holes of equal size, when I look down the neck I can still see little raised pieces of brass that look like they are from when the hole was punched... do I just need to increase the cutting depth maybe? Or maybe this isn't a huge deal and I should move on with life? After all, the holes are all uniform now, so all the flash should be getting in the same way...

At least RCBS and Sinclair International have flash hole deburring tools as well. Each as different methods for limiting the depth of the cut.

I have the Sinclair and I've been happy with it. I bought mine before most other makers offered them, and before most reloaders knew such a tool existed. It's still going strong. :D

I use a Possom Hollow tool chucked in my drill press. Worked very well on my 223 brass.

Lapua Brass...

JD Gray beat me to it:
What!!!? Lapua brass with burrs?
That's what you pay extra for premium brass for--it comes all prepped! If I found flashhole burrs in a Lapua case I'd be complaining to the vendor of said case, or back to Lapua.

I can get new cases that need prep, paying Rem or Win or milsurp prices. I don't need to pay Lapua prices to do brass prep.

Gee whiz!!! :fire:

rfwobbly,
Hey, I think I have that same 12V Porter Cable Drill. It's 22 years old and still does a good job with the original pair of Nicad battery packs.

This will do the inside nice and clean. There's others similar to it, just look around in the category I linked to.
That's what I use. Load the brass in Lee's trimmer and stick it in my cordless screwdriver. Once caught the tool on an especially uneven pocket and it pulled the drill bit out of the handle. Had to "crimp"it back in place. Otherwise works fine. It's a one-time deal for new brass just as the primer pocket unifier, isn't it?
