My handguns have lanyard loops and I use them (both the loops and the handguns). I use them on the farm driving tractors and on boats, etc. I have used paracord to secure it to my pistol belt, it is simple but works fairly well. How many of you actually utilize your lanyard loops and what do you use. Also, what is available commercially and how do the commercial lanyards work? I have tried various para cord setups, have any of you got any paracord setups that have worked for you?

I believe Blackhawk makes a telephone-cord type unit with velcro belt attachment and snap on the end. I have one; don't use it a lot but it works well. The cord doesn't get in the way and it's a break-free setup if it gets badly hung up and tries to kill you.

Various military gear catalogues carry them or similar ones. They will probably google right up.

I like the GemTech specifically for it's breakaway feature. Since I work in and around the water, I do not want the lanyard getting snagged on something and me being held under as a result. I want to be able to give it a hard pull, have it break away (even if it means losing the weapon) and be able to get to the surface. No weapon is worth my life. The same could be said for anyone who works around machinery and has one.....it would suck to get pulled into some nasty machine by your lanyard...and injured.

Bowen and Glock make the over the shoulder style of lanyard. They are more for open carry outdoors.

You can get coiled pistol lanyards for about $15-20. Just google search.

They will stay coiled and out of your way when carrying, and definitely get one that has a 100lb breakaway feature. If I were operating tractors or other heavy machinery, I wouldn't hang anything on me that couldn't detach in an emergency.

I use these.

I haven’t used a lanyard since my Army days. Sounds Like you have a good use for one and paracord is probably as good as anything.
