Ok, very quick question here, forgive the simple nature of the quesiton.

Im just about to purchase an 1858 new army, and ive decided to use ox yoke wonder wads with it, after hearing the praise about them on here.

My question is what kind or ox yoke wonder wad patches to I get?

How thick? (I'll either be using pyridex or triple 7)

And do I get Pre lubed or oiled?

All the best guys, and thanks in advanced for help on this one.

Andrew

oh, I forgot to ask, does anybody have the url for a thread a while back in which someone posted how to make your own wads? Im having trouble finding it.

Thanks,

Andrew

I have used a felt overpowder 'button' in my '58 Rem since I discovered that my groups tightened noticeably when I used them. I always shoot a stout load, using a fired 7.62X39 case as a measure. it's 32 gr 3F. and I shoot Lee mold concials I cast and I make my felts. I place a dab of lube atop them when loading. most of the time I lube my slugs with Lee Alox bullet lube also.

You get felt overpowder wads, not patches.

Type of powder doesn't matter. Overpowder felt wads do not come in different thicknesses. They're all about 1/4" thick.

I'm not familiar with 'oiled' as an option. All I've seen is either dry or lubed. In any case, what you want is some lubrication to keep fouling down in the chamber and barrel, so go for that. It's an alternative to using grease over the ball, which gets messy. Ox Yoke Wonder Lube is a fine choice.

But if you make your own it is MUCH cheaper and very easy. I know - I am a Yorkshireman Andy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those who don't know; A Yorkshireman is a Scotsman with all the generosity kicked out of him :evil::evil::evil:

I recall that during my tenure in Edinburgh there were some Scotsmen who claimed to have kicked more than generosity out of Yorkshiremen. I suspect they were a bit flush from a recent rugby union 5 Nations championship at the time. I chose not to mention Culloden.

Indeed, well im a student so cost cutting seems to come naturally to me right now! I do definately plan on making my own, this will just be for the first few times at the range.

Also, forgive calling them patches, but I saw they were described on an online shop as ox yoke wonder wad patches which i though was a bit wierd, but I thought id use the term just in case.

Thanks everyone

Andrew
