What was the first cartridge/gun you ever fired?

Either a .22lr from a Ruger 10-22 or a .45ACP from a Colt 1911. Probably the. 22.

Both guns were my dad's. Both are long gone, but I have my own 10-22 & 1911 now.

In order of first caliber introduced to, to the latest I have been introduced to: 22LR, 8mm Mauser, 7.62x54, .38 spl, .30-30, 7.62x39, .410, .45acp, .44-40, .45 colt, .357 mag, 12ga, 5.56/.223, 20ga, 40 s&w, 9mm, .308 win, .30 carbine, .300blackout and finally .44 spl/mag, with the 300 BO and .44spl/mag being introduced last year, everything else was introduced several years ago. I have a 6.5 grendel sitting waiting for me to go sight in, hopefully this week, so that will be the newest caliber I will get to shoot. I have an open invitation to shoot a .300 win mag a friend just got a few months ago.

I haven't owned all of these, some were friends guns but I have owned most of them.

First cartridge gun I ever fired would be my brother's Mauser HSc in .380. We shot it down in the basement of our house while the folks were out (well you didn't think we would do it while they were home, did you?)! We only fired a few rounds as we didn't want the basement to smell like burnt gun powder and I remember that for such a tiny round it sure did have a decent kick to it!

We were probably about 20' away, shooting into a wooden crate filled with as many old phone books as we could find. The bullets went through the books and the crate and were lodged into the wood paneling behind it! We dug the bullets out and sort of patched up the holes without our folks being any the wiser!

Lol, killed my first deer with a JC Higgins Bolt action. 12ga. Paid $15.00 for it used. That was a very long time ago.
I foolishly sold that 20 gauge JC Higgins years ago, but my dad still has the 12ga. version standing guard in his closet.

IMO, the CHUNK-CLUNK of that bolt action is more terrifying than a pump gun!

First gun I ever fired was a single action 22lr revolver. I don’t have a clue on the make or model. My dad had sold it and passed away long before I ever had an interest in guns.

.410

A Stoeger side by side my grandfather gave me when I got my hunters safety license.

We warmed up shooting that at cans since I was ... 6?

At 12 my best friend received a browning 12ga and a reloader. We shot clay pigeons then reloaded then the next day started all over again.

We all started somewhere. Interested to see where you all started. My very first was a Harrington & Richardson 929 "Sidekick" .22lr with a 4" barrel. My grandfather had it for years after having it given to him by a shop owner who's store had been flooded and the gun had been found in the store, the box saturated with the gun inside (I guess the owner assumed the gun was completely useless given the water damage). About 10 years ago, my grandfather gave it to my family. Considering the amount of exposure to water, the rust on the gun isn't half bad and it still shoots perfect to this day.

As it should be - a .22 rimfire.

I don't remember exactly but I'm sure it was my Dad's pump .22, probably a Remington. Somewhere in the archives is a picture of me with the rifle and a dead jackrabbit, circa 1950 according to the license plate on the pickup behind me.

the first one I remember shooting was at my hunter's safety class when I was 12. It was a .410 shotgun. I shot a head of cabbage and it exploded and flew everywhere. It was awesome. But I imagine I shot a .22 rifle prior that.

A Valmet RK62 assault rifle. In military of course, September 1979. Our training also included the Suomi SMG, the KvKK62 LMG and Mosin M39. Plus some heavier stuff... after that, a long break till I got my first own gun, a Russian Margolin MCM 22LR target pistol. Still have it, and a "few" others.

My grandfather always carried a small revolver in his Levi jacket pocket,,,
It could be 100 degrees in the shade and he would have that jacket on.

It was probably an Iver Johnson 32 or 38,,,
It had an owl's head on the grip.

When I was four years old he let me shoot a cylinder at a tree,,,
I've been an absolute gun nut ever since then.

My Grandfathers .22 with the little acorn 22 cb caps. Now that I’m the gun guy however, I make sure my friends first guns fired are much cooler than mine.

It was a .22 LR, I just can’t recall if it was with my Dad and his Marlin 39A or my Grandfather with his Winchester 1890.

It was during the same summer when I turned 8, and now that I think about it.. it was the Marlin because I usually spent the first half of summer break with Dad.

Man aging sucks! :(

Stay safe.

My mother bought me a 410 shot gun for Christmas when I was 10 year old, or over 50 years ago. It still works & lives in a safe. She also bought me a .22LR pistol when I was about 22 with a short barrel that I could not hit the side of a barn with. Yes, my mother was a gun nut. She wanted to give me a UZI for Christmas, but my wife objected, and she won that battle. Now that I'm somewhat of a gun nut, that UZI sounds pretty good, but I'd rather keep my wife.
