What was your best deal on a used handgun?

Back in the late 70's a co-worker of mine told me he had a new gun he wanted to sell. He told me he only fired it twice because it made to much noise and was way to heavy. Since it was a birthday gift he had received he wanted to sell it and buy something else. He wanted $200 for it so I bought it. The gun was a brand new 4" Colt Python with 48 cartridges. His story turned out to be true as his uncle also worked there on another shift and was mad at him for selling the gift he had just given him.

Best deal used? Nickel plated S&W Model 19-4. Good shape, very nice double action trigger. 200FRNs.

I am a piker compared to you guys. I bought a used,like new, S&W M37 for $150, new Sig P220 for $375, CZ40B for $269, CZ75B for $269, and a used Walther P1 for $199.. There are others that come to mind. Regards, Richard:D

hk p7m13 NIB straight from the factory for $378

it was when hk had just introduced the m8 and m13, they had just missed the military contract and were trying the make an impact into the police market...i think it was for LEO only, it was through our range staff so i'm thinking departmental purchase.

i couldn't resist selling it when the offers doubled my purchase price...plus i like the psp and m8 better

Got a kinda obscure SIG P210 variant for $900. Since a "cheap" one is $1,500, I felt good about that deal.

oops, brain fade again...

i missed the "used" part of the thread title...

how about a ex-chp 4" python for $325 (they had just started issuing the smith m-68)
or
a underused, but slightly tarnished, beretta 21A for $45 w/o mag (co-worker's wife's nnightstand gun)

Probably the $150 I paid for my beloved Dan Wesson 22 revolver. It's probably given me as much enjoyment as any three other guns that cost probably 10 times more.

$289 for an unfired Taurus PT99AF with 3 15 rounders and 2 10 rounders. 18,000 trouble free rounds.

Also got half off a very nice EAA Silver Team that had been used in competition for a season. Has three holds drilled for optics mount.

$400 for a 38 Super Combat Commander, 2 Wilson mags and two boxes of ammo.

But my buddy takes the cake... he has a thing for $60 guns... $60 for a S&W Model 60 heavy barrel. $60 Henry rifle. $60 870 Express... It's good to work in a pawn shop. ;)

Colt Gold Cup

Colt Gold Cup National Match. Guy I met at the range was cussin at it, because it was always malfunctioning. Said he wanted to get rid of it, was just not reliable. I looked it over and offered him $200 -- he took it and chuckled about what a deal for him and what a sucker I was.

I took it home, and did a "reliability" job on it --
Replaced 2 piece guide rod with standard short one, along with recoil spring cap.
Replaced "extended" slide stop with standard one.
Replaced "extended" mag release with standard one.
Replaced 20# recoil spring with standard 16#
Threw away the "shock buffer".
Cleaned an amazing amount of crud out of the gun, and lubed it sparingly.

It has worked perfectly ever since.:D

Nice E. German Makarov for $179. Gunshop considers most of those "Commie" guns to be junk - and thought all the Maks were the same. Definitely not!

My second and third pistol purchases were my best used deals...

I purchased a keltec p40 with trigger shoe, trigger mod, belt clip, and magazine w finger extension from a friend for 150$, and then purchased a slightly used p-32 from a local police offcier with 2 magazines, a high noon holster pocket holster, a uncle mikes iwb holster, and 50 dollars in fmj and hollow point ammo for a even 200$ dollars. The p32 has worked flawlessly and the p40 is coming back from its factory home as a 9mm with nightsites, I cant wait!

my best two were browning Hi-powers, both MkIII's.

1. a 1994 edition MkIII practical 9mm, got it from a dealer at the gunshow for $295 with one high cap. Later sold it (#$Q@!#$).

2. Just recently, got a MkIII .40 from a friend, with 2 mags and a Kramer IWB for $350.

almost forgot,

3. Mdl 60 .38 & a preban Mini 14, both for $400(!).

P7 PSP that had been hardchromed - $650. I bought it when I didn't really have the money to do so and had to sell it soon afterward. Sold it to a buddy for what I paid for it.

A five-inch, blue S&W Model 27 .357 Magnum for only $225.00, apparently very gently used, back in 1991.

Hi Guys,

I haven't bought too many used guns, but at a show in the fall of 2000, I got a barely used Colt Ltwt. Officers MKIV-series 80 for $450. Nearly perfect finish and barely any wear of the finish on the frame rails. Not the greatest deal, but they were not being made any more and I had been looking for one for a while, and this one was barely used.

Best

A lady friend in need of money, offered me her new and still un-fired Taurus PT111 with stainless slide, in 9mm, for $50 cash!

I gave her $75 instead, and told her she could have it back anytime in the next ninety days, for exactly what I paid her. :)

It was missing the magazine, Taurus box, and the retainer spring on the take down lever. Her brother took it apart and lost the spring, before they ever got to fire it!

Taurus replaced the spring for free, and she found the box, sales slip, warrantee papers, and magazine a few weeks later, and brought them to me. :D

She never asked for the gun back, and moved out of state a few months ago.

Terrible trigger pull, but it makes a good belly gun for the price. :D

Best deal

In 1997, I bought a used S&W Model 13 for $225 from a local dealer. It was in great condition and was an excellent shooter. In late 1998, I used it as a trade for a NIB Colt Magnum Carry and got $300 as a down payment. I should have paid cash and kept the Smith & the Colt,
John
