I realize this is about 4 years early to be discussing since it probably will be announced by manufacturers in 2010 or so. But who cares!

Any guesses on what the various 1911 makers will roll out for the 100th Anniversay of John Brownings most famous firearm? I predict it will be big and expensive. Somehow I imagine Colt will go bananas and have a ultra limited edition platinum plated work of art, with less limited gold and silver plated versions. Smith and Wesson will probably also have nice looking ones. Hmmm these will be a lot of $$$$. Better start saving now. Any guesses on how collectable these Centennial editions might be? I be the special presentation cases will be fancy wood and briefcase sized. Springfield Armory will probably have theirs in a WW1 replica ammo box outside, but inside is nice velvet lining and other fancy things. Heck I bet most are like that inside. It should be if you pay big money.

P.S. Bet you this is a record holder for Zombie threads. Probably comes back once a year like Groundhog Day. :)

Kimber will come out with a Centennial Edition 1911. And it'll come with Internal Extractor, loaded chamber indicator, Magazine Disconnect, Schwartz safety and MIM slide and frame!

Price tag: $3500

I am so sick of that "2012 the world ends" conspiracy. Every generation thinks the apocalypse is going to happen to them. Too many people like the Drama in their lives. Enough with the End of the world BS already!!!!

I'd be happy if Colt were still selling handguns in 2011.

Doesn't STI already have a Model 2011?;)

" EAGLE 5.0

STI's all time greatest best seller, The best redesign ever!

Linking patented 2011 technology with the 1911 design, STI had produced the softest shooting, most reliable, highest capacity, most accurate, recoil operated, factory produced, semi-automatic handgun in the world today."

I'm forseeing a lower receiver made out of polymer to upset both the 1911 fans and the polymer fans and completely ending the arguement of which is better because this one will be better than both.

Glock will make one that explodes in celebration, Springfields will be chambered in .45 GAP, and Rock Island Arms will be priced lower than both.

I predict Colt's centennial edition will have a smart chip in it requiring personal permission from the Attorney General for each trigger pull :neener:

Hoping against hope - - -

I'd like to see Colt's survive long enough to do it up right.

Remember the recent production WW-I 1911 and WW-II 1911A1 GI style pistols? How about an even earlier version of the carbona blued, first year of production style pistol, with the early roll mark and two-tone magazines complete with the extra lanyard staple?

Personally, I'd like to see NO special markings on the pistol, other than. possibly the serial number, styled something like No. 100-0001. I think I would limit production to 9999 copies. Since the initial production went to the Army, I'd want to see MODEL OF 1911 U. S. ARMY on the right side of the slide. If the serial number wasn't enough, then slide markings like,
MODEL OF 1911 U. S. ARMY 2011.

If these military models were a big success, they could bring out a civilian series, marked GOVERNMENT MODEL on the frame, and numbered from C100-0001, or perhaps start the numbering at C100-10001 (extra digit.)

And, sure, put 'em up in some sort of wooden presentation case with suitable brass plate. But NO etching or rolled-on engraving on the pistol, NO gold-filled lettering. The entire key would be to provide such a pistol as my grandfather (your great-grandfather, probably) might have unwriaped late in 1911.

I believe Colt's could sell a BUNCH of such pistols. And, yes, they would probably cost $1200 today, and maybe $1500 in 2011. I'd pay it, if I could scratch up the money.

Any of y'all who have an "in" with Colt's, please feel free to impart this scheme to them. Claim it as your own, if you wish.

Best,
Johnny

Whatever every manufacturer makes will be overpriced std models with gaudy engraving and rollmarks all over them. Have a couple different levels of bling bling crap and fancy stuff. Everyone will clamor over them but whine about the prices.

I think Johnny is right. If Colt is still in business in five years and if Americans are still allowed to buy pistols, a plain vanilla Government Model would be very nice. I'd make two versions, commercial and military.

I don't care what the clone labs come out with.

+1!
Except for the "highest capacity" statement. I think Para mags holds more.

Bump. Keep the ideas coming please! Feel free to forward to 1911 makers to give them ideas.

My advice for the 1911 makers. Keep the quality high, remember some people might shoot a few bullets from these on July 4th or Browning's birthday or something. Make the case nice and keep the price reasonable. We hate price goughing and get enough of it after Hurricanes! Plus, you don't want half your stock of "special editions" just sitting on the shelves getting dusty now do you? :)

I rather hope not. A shootable retro edition (everything, gun box, paperwork, etc. just like it was Back In The Day) would be more interesting.

because we all know that after 2012 it wont matter.

Mayan calendar peters out, and technological progress goes asymptotic (per the late RAW , somewhere in his corpus).
