What do you thing the major advancements that are going to come to the firearms and weapons technology in the future?

New plastics that are stronger? Lighter?
Caseless ammunition? Laser ray beams?
New powders for higher velocities?

What do you guys thing is to come, or what would you like to see come to the market?

I would like something that makes auto loaders even more reliable...even on weak ammunition...such that the term "limp-wrist" becomes archaic

An advancement in propulsion that doesn't require the use of hearing protection.

Caseless ammunition teamed with electronic ignition and probably a computer chip for military guns that controls rate of fire. Firing the gun will charge the battery.

Somebody will figure out how to use a gas for propulsion, and the ammo will be a discarding sabot fletchette hauling ass at mach 5.

HK was working on caseless ammo a while ago. I'm sure someone out there in R&D land is still on it. The EI is also on the horizon. Combining those two would likely cut down on weight, provide a higher round count in the mag, and if the gas system is done properly maybe we'll see a further cut in felt recoil.

The ability to register, track and and trace ammunition, arms, and fired shots to individuals who will be held responsible under a national guns and ammo management system.

One gun and 20-40 rounds of non-military caliber ammo whose spent shells will be audited if you want to buy replacements ala Japan/South America.

Electronic ignition. I don't like the idea, but I think it's coming.
I think electronic ignition was tried a while back.
Remingtons Model 700 Etronx comes to mind. After reading about it in Popular Mechanics, I never heard another word about it, till I read that it had been discontinued.

God! What a Nightmare!

im going to make a bold prediction.....

within 20 years........hand held laser rifle/pistols.

ive already seen a handheld prototype that can shoot through thin sheet metal and plastics...and given how fast technology improves.....its only a matter of time before it encroaches to lethal levels.

ill see if i can find the link.

Hocka Louis at post #12. Are they really a gun owner? I think perhaps a gun control advocate joined us maybe?

From post #12:

No thanks, I am an American with rights that are far better that South America or Japan thank you very much. Perhaps you meant your post for these people? http://www.bradycampaign.org/

Thicker more advanced slides for Hi Point :D ok..just kidding here.

Not sure what it could be really. A lot of people bash the Taurus Judge, but it sold a lot and was the latest gadget a "mini shotgun" for the unlearned

I think something new will be thought up to market in the gun magazines and get us buying again soon. I think Kel Tec, has something with their new Shotgun and PMR 30 pistol. At least it is something different.

I think a safety to end all safeties, only the correct user will be able to fire a gun. I think there will be some sort of microchip in the grip. I have heard of it being in development so that officers don't get their guns used against them.

Only downside is, if you are registered, and you are home with an intruder, something happens to you, your spouse if defenseless. Or if you are not at home, each person has to have their own firearm.
