Assuming you wont buy both he he he. If there is a relatively big price difference I will go with whatever is cheaper. Unless both the FN SCAR and Sig 55X are super expensive. What are the latest price speculations anyway? Feel free to post new pics of either too :) Seems like the shot show is a year away.

So which do you want most? The FN SCAR or Sig 55X

Sam old pics we have been seeing forever:

Not exactly a fair visual comparison, since a civi legal SIG would look more like the 551 (18" barrel). The 552 has something like a 10" barrel.

In any case, I'd take the FN ARM (SCAR-L).

I'll take the 86 ban for 200, Alex.

ATF jokes aside, I think that the HK416 and similar gas piston uppers are going to be more compelling products because they address the problems of the AR15 platform (at least as compared to the Sig and scar) but they retain the wonderful lowers that so many already own, some of which happen to be full auto.

Assuming both came out in civie legal versions and there was an atrocious proce gap between them, I would get the SIG 550. I'd love it if SIG did such a thing for us, but am not optimistic. The good news is that this really doesn't bother me much since I am not in the market for a poodle shooter right now...

Assuming there is nothing totally insane about the prices (if each was under 1500 or so) I would plan to eventually get one of each in the 16" variety. I'm as skeptical as they come, but the head honchos of SIG have all but directly stated over on SIGforum that there will be a civ-legal carbine released by them at SHOT. How close it will be to a milspec 55x line is yet to be seen. If it is just another bastardized AR15, forget it. If it is a semi-auto version of a milspec 551, I'm in.

I think the scar is probably further down the line, but FN has already proven that they aren't shy about releasing new guns, so it wouldn't surprise me if we see one somewhere in the future. Haven't really heard anything about one coming out at SHOT though.

That
Dayum I'm tempted, if i had to choose between beforeshown and
scar-l_eglm.jpg

then i'd be stuck, probably would get both.

rumor is that the Sig 556 will take AR mags. I'll hopefully know bright and early on the 8th:D

Can you post to THR from your cellphone? What time should we check this thread on the 8th? You'll be in Mountain timezone, right?

*grin*

MV, there is a ton of talk going on over at thefiringline concerning this (THR's own spacemanspiff is probably the most excited :D and from what I understand he will be eagerly awaiting a phone call from our old Alaskan buddy who used to post here so that he can relay specs) I doubt I'll be the first to get info posted on it, but I'll do my best. If all goes as planned I'll have two of them as soon as they ship.

Hmm...that's a tough choice. Seems like the Sig is more robust. But the SCAR doesn't look like a slouch either. I'd go SCAR probably...faster mag changes. Depends on use. For all-purpose, battle, SHTF etc...Sig, for better conditions/high speed - SCAR.

That being said...

For that kind of money, they don't do anything better than the AR-15 platform. At least not for that type of price - it's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, at least for domestic use. AK's are great and all, as is the SIG, but I don't subject my weapons to any kind of environmental abuse that would justify this. Whatever environmental abuse Florida has to offer, the AR can handle it. Same goes for people with FAL's and G3's etc...they have a rifle that is good enough for anything they'll encounter.

The SCAR, if it ever makes it to civillian production, will be several years away.

And do any of you for a second think that it is going to be under $1500? The P90 is almost that much. The FS2000 is a lot more. Those are plastic guns. You think that a tweaked FNC with aluminum rails all over it is going to go for less? :D

I thought the civi SCAR would be debuted at this shot show.

I would be really really really really surprised. :) I'll be at SHOT. I'll be sure to let you know, but I doubt there will be any civillian production for quite some time.

1. They have to fill the SOCOM contracts first.
2. Why introduce it this year and steal the FS2000 and PS90s thunder?

Well if that is the case, then I would have to do a little more research:D

O and I have to say that if they offered the SCAR in 7.62x51 with interchangeable barrel lengths, my sincerest apologies to SIG, but I'd be all over that like "white on rice on a paper plate with a glass of milk in a snow storm."

Ahh crap! Well hopefully next year. I will have to see how great the Sigs are before I wait though. And the price. I wish they would at least release the price. I want the FN a little more but Im pretty impatient and I dont think I could buy both because Im supposed to be saving for a 2001 Corvette Z06 (wanting to buy in a year or so). The gun is supposed to be an investment though.
