What will you do with your braced pistol if things get weird

If the ATF brings the hammer down on those of us who own them, what will you do with them? Unless I'm mistaken you have one of two options.

1. Take off the brace and run it with a bare or sleeved buffer tube

2. Weld/Permanently Affix an appropriate length muzzle device to bring the bbl length to 16".

That is basically the only options that I'm aware of, besides maybe filing a lawsuit or some expensive NFA paperwork. Also, what is the deal with the tube sleeves, are there any good ones with padding or that possibly taper out toward the butt end and make a nice "heel" or whatever you might call it to prevent it from tipping over so easily in your gun rack?

Speculation into further law is usually frowned upon here and gets threads locked. Crystal ball looking into the future sort of thing.

If anything does come down the pipe, I would probably take the brace off anything I might own. And then read as much about the rule change to stand on the right side of the law. Some (supposedly leaked) ATF paperwork mentions brace owners would be allowed to register their future SBR AR pistols as NFA firearms with a waived fee. But I'll believe that when I see it.
