What WON'T you carry and why?

I've had my carry permit for about 2 years now. I started out with a 642-1. Then a Taurus G3c. I would rather carry the 642 because it's lighter. But, less accurate. The g3c is heavier but more accurate.
Both are dependable. " People can say what they want about the Taurus. But, The dang thing Works and Works Well. Simple as that."
But, Truth is I Don't Like carrying a gun. Just very uncomfortable. So, I very seldom do. Also as simple as that.

Well, good for you. I've done it too, and the state is not friendly to visiting LEOs.
Wow, brand-new here, and you're already insulting other forum members.
Umm, go back and re-read. I didn’t insult, I merely played my part in the ritual that you initiated. I gave an opinion about a gun and you got hurt feelings.

Huh, I’ve never had issues with cops in Hawaii and LEOSA. I’ve always had good experiences with them while carrying concealed there and it’s never been a problem, I try not to be arrogant when visiting outside of my home state.

In case you didn't notice, I've a few W. German SIGs in the pic, which doesn't even represent the whole collection.
. You’re right, I didn’t care to notice too closely, since I can’t stand the brand. I have no interest in things that don’t interest me.

I'm not a striker gun fan, nor am I a polymer gun fan, but I have carried a few of them. I will not ever carry a 1911. I don't own a single one anymore. If I'm going to carry an all metal or all steel gun, it's going to be one I have confidence in, and that excludes 1911's. If I wanted to carry a .45 ACP gun, my Sig P220 would probably be my first pick, as the other two, an S&W 4506 and a SAR K245, are pretty big and heavy. They are both about as reliable as a semiauto can be. But I would probably carry my Taurus PT111 G2 most of the time. It's cheap, and it works.

For me it is any revolver. In this day and age I have come to believe that capacity and reload time is a consideration in choosing a carry gun. I carry a pistol with an option of15 or 10 round magazine. I only use the 10 when deep concealment is necessary. Otherwise I carry 15 +1.

Yeah, um, no, I don't need to go back and "re-read." Member posts a pic of any of his guns, you call them trash. That's an insult.

We don't do that here.

And um, no, my feelings aren't hurt. Takes a bit more'n that (like when the wife says she doesn't like my new haircut). You're just another anonymous person on the internet, so in the great scheme of things, your opinion is just that. The opinion of someone whose credibility is an unknown.

Old Dog It is really simple.
THIS IS THE HIGH ROAD!!!
Most of us take it!

I prefer not to carry a pistol with an external safety. For years, when I carried occasionally (when all I could get was a non-resident permit that allowed me to carry when out of state) I carried a 1911. Somewhere in the 5-10 years ago range I decided to stop. I carried more than one type of gun, and I wanted to simplify. A safety means you need to regularly practice disengaging the safety on the draw or you might have a fatal mistake, and since I didn't carry often, and I didn't only carry 1911s, I was afraid I might have a mix up. Well, now that I carry pretty much daily (post-Bruen, a MD permit was possible), I will allow myself occasional carry of a 1911 since I do love them. I figure, if I practice enough to be in the habit of swiping the safety, the worst that will happen is I may try to disengage a non-existent safety on one of my DAO or striker pistols, or I'll accidentally hit the decocker on my already decocked CZ PCR, neither of which will have any negative impact. But, the 1911 carry is only occasional, and I don't carry other guns with an external safety.

When I'm going to be out more than an hour or two I won't carry a gun that weighs more than 28oz or so. My S&W 1911SC and CZ PCR seem to be the limit for longer carry sessions. If I'm going to carry a larger gun for more than one or two days, I won't carry anything heavier than my Glock 19. I have a bad back, and too much weight on my belt for too long can cause problems.

I absolutely won't carry a gun that is too expensive (I have no hard and fast cut off), or that would be too hard to replace. Things can happen when carrying. You can damage the gun, and of course, the classic, if you are in a defensive shoot, your gun could be confiscated by the police, and when (and if) it returns to you it may not be in the condition it was in when you last had it. Also, just daily carrying will cause cosmetic wear and tear. No big deal on my $200ish Taurus 85 I bought 15 years ago, or my utilitarian Glock or SIG P365, heartbreaking when it is my nice S&W 65LS or some classic pistol or revolver that is no longer made (or will cost too much to replace).

That's an easy one, my Pietta replica 1851 Navy revolver! It's a blast to shoot at the range, but the "why" I wouldn't carry it for self defense should be obvious.

#1. 6 shots, period. Reloading this in a defensive situation is NOT going to happen.
#2. 380ACP pocket pistol power, in a 357 Magnum size revolver.
#3. Not reliable, even with the well designed 'SliX Shot' nipples, the possibility of a cap jam malfunction is far too high.
#4. It's single action only.

Yes ! But that is one cool handgun! I can see Clint Eastwood with a pair of them gunning down other bad guys

I won't carry anything . I won't carry nothing.
I'm the weapon and I will deal with what I'm presented .
If I have my choice , it'll be a compact 45 auto. If that isn't an option I'll adapt . you're only as good as you can shoot the gun you shoot the worst . or whatever. Learn to shoot folks, shoot everything with no excuse .

Second part of the question is Why?
Let's provide some multiple choice answers for those that list types or brands of handguns, but give no reason(s).

A. ______ is a "budget" gun and I'm a gun snob.
B. ______ is made in a foreign country that's not Germany and I'm a gun snob.
C. ______ are POS, because my buddy's dad had one and didn't like it.
D. ______ is too ugly for me, and perception matters.
E._______ is not issued to any top tier operators.
F._______ makes bad guns and I believe everything I read on the internet.
G._______ was getting slammed on the internet gun forums back in 2006 for its horrible customer service and that matters to me.
H _______ is a brand I will never buy again because I bought one in its early production and it malfunctioned, so I moved on.
I.________ is a gun I have never seen a cop carry and our military doesn't use it.
J.________ was getting great reviews in the firearms periodicals, and since they're all shills for the industry, I don't believe it's any good.
K. The guy at the gun counter told me that even though his store sells out every _______ they get in, it's not any good, because he did a tour in Iraq.
L. The guy at the gun counter told me that only noobs buy ______, and he knows, because he did a tour in Iraq.
M. Because, Taurus, and I believe all the haters on the internet, regardless of how many millions of people buy and use them.
N. Because, Kimber, and I still remember all the hate on the internet for two years back in the day, and I have a really, really good memory.
O. Because Colt is a shadow of its former self and went through too many ownership and management changes, so they suck, even though I've never even shot one.
P. Because, The Lock.
Q. I refuse to carry a pistol with a manual safety.
R. I refuse to carry a pistol that doesn't have a manual safety.
S. I don't need to own or shoot a handgun to know that it's crap.
T. Because it's all metal, too big and heavy.
U. Because it's too small, and I have big, manly man hands.
V. Because my wife won't let me spend the money for _______, so it's way overpriced.
W. Because _______ is manufactured in a state with restrictive gun laws and I believe in the Second Amendment.
X. Because, Hi-Point. And I'm way too cool to even be seen with one of these.
Y. Because it's a mouse gun, and I'm way too manly to have to shoot a bad guy with a caliber that doesn't start with 4.
Z. Because, Glock

Hope this helps.

Now we need to applaud Old Dog for his multiple choice list.
We don't need to agree with it all, but it was kind of fun to read.

I don't conceal carry anything other than my Sig in .380. I want some that is super light and small and I can easily put in my pocket. I'd like to be able to carry my Sig in .40 but I'm just not willing to modify/adjust as needed to carry it concealed.
And to think that I actually AIWB carry a Glock 20.

I won’t carry most of my guns because concealed carry is really a rather specialized niche in the gun world, and I don’t open carry.

Of the pistols that I own, there are 4 that I would consider good candidates for CCW in different circumstances, a half dozen more that I might grab reluctantly in a pinch (but why? My .380s, 9, or NAA .22 do the CCW job so much better than a heavy .32 that’s not drop safe, or a .25 of some flavor.) …and plenty that are fun at the range, or fun to look at, but have no business being concealed for self-defense purposes today.

No .22s unless they’re tiny, nothing particularly valuable or collectible, no black powder or single shots, nothing full-sized…. No light-trigger striker fired guns.

I will not carry a .41, .44 or .45 as the guns that use these rounds are too heavy for the most part. I have a CHARTER ARMS Bulldog, but never carry it, recoil is an issue with it. I usually am carrying my 9m.m. duty pistol when going home or too work, as well as when on duty.
Off duty, I want something small and concealable. Usually either a BERETTA 3032 Tomcat or GLOCK 42. I have .38 Special's, .357 magnums, 9m.m., .357 SIG and .40 S&W caliber handguns, but I rarely carry them. They are too large to easily conceal in casual clothes.
I would hope to never have to carry a .22lr or .25ACP, but you never know.

Jim
