I am, as I'm sure most of you are, very comfortable with firearms. I'm not worried about accidental or negligent discharges, as I'm very responsible with my weapons.

What worries me about guns is the possibility of them failing to fire at the worst possible time. I take good care for my defensive weapons and make sure they're in perfect working order, I even load my own ammo so I can make sure the job is done right, but I just can't shake that fear of a FTF. Of course I try to simulate FTFs at the range so I can practice clearing the weapon and making it operable again as fast as possible, but there's not always time for that when you really need your gun to go bang and it doesn't.

What (gun-related) do you guys worry about?

What worries me most about guns is haveing one pointed at me in a threatening manner.

That's a good question...I'd have to say theft. I do a good job of securing my firearms but you never know.

The thought that a firearm I own could fall into the hands of a bad guy is enough to prompt me to ensure I've taken all measures to keep them in my hands :)

Take care,
DFW1911

My biggest worry is when do I get to go to the range and shoot my newest acquisions? I am recovering from detached retena surgery and have been waiting since the first week of February! :what: Since then I have gotten in a new Remington 40XB Rangemaster Thumbhole in .220 Swift and a Savage MKII in .22 LR. Sometime (soon I hope!) my 40XB (in for rebarreling) will be ready to pickup at the local gunsmiths! :banghead:

Not being able to add new units to my stable, especially in the near future, will they try and stop us(gun owners) via ammo purchase or accessories purchases. Every thing else will be mute, if this happens.

AS to FTF, the biggest single reason in almost any match, the 1000 round endurance shoot I just shot, etc.... is reloaded ammunition.

Interesting. The vast majority of failures begin with one of two refrains.

"That is the first bad round I ever had. Usually by a guy who has been reloading for less than 6 months."

The second.

"Yeah, I changed _______ (you can fill in the blank) because ________ (you get to pick the reason too). It doesn't surprise me. Usually by folks that have been reloading for years.

When I go to a fight, or a fight comes to me, the weapon I use will be clean, well maintained and carrying within one month old 'FRESH' factory ammunition. In my 1911's it is Remington Golden Sabers, in my High Power's it is CorBon 115 DPX.

The only thing I worry about RE: Guns, is the Government insisting on my being disarmed and/or not allowing me to 'have' the weapon I need when I need it. i.e. "SAFE" weapons free zones.

Go figure.

Very good point. I've only been reloading for a year or so, and I've made my share of bad ammo. I've also come up with a recipe that has never malfunctioned in my carry gun, and shoots more accurately (for me at least) than any factory load I've tried. I've put more than 500 rounds of this recipe through the weapon. I always use the same brand of case, and thoroughly inspect each round that I'm considering for carry.

I know that I pay much closer attention to quality control for my ammo than a factory possibly could. That's why I feel better with my own ammo.

Surprisingly, it's my legacy.

I make sure that my pistols and revolvers work as flawlessly as my bikes. They are always in good repair, very clean, the magzines function and I have found reliable commercial rounds and competent reloads.

When I sell a pistol, I check with my cop friends first. I don't want a perfect pistol with high-caps showing up in a robbery attempt.

People have told me for years that my responsibility ends with the cashing of the check. I can't rationalize that.

About 15 years ago, a drug dealer got hold of an old revolver I used to own. In the gun's history, it went through about a dozen hands.

One night in a paranoid fit, the drug dealer went outside to check on a noise, cocked the revolver with his finger insider the trigger guard, tripped over a garden hose, and put a full-house .357 Mag hollowpoint through the bottom of his jaw and out the top of his head.

We laugh. Too bad, so sad.

I always ponder if it had been one of our friends--with my old gun.

I wouldn't say I'm worried, but it has crossed my mind that I could in my sleep do something bad with my HD weapon. I know it is very unlikely but I also know it has happened to good people. It has just crossed my mind.

#1 worry is political situation

#2 is Running out of ammo :neener:

Seriously I am concerned that when my children grow up they have to ask "what was shooting a gun like Dad?"

Think about it and vote like your childrens future depends on it!

Oh, a few things.

Not having the fortitude to do what needs to be done in a defensive situation.

Having my gun jam.

Making the wrong judgement call.

Negligent discharge.

Having them fall into the wrong hands.

LEO's not knowing firearms laws.

New ammo regulations/bans.

A house fire.

Even though my stuff is insured, some of the rifles I have gotten very attached to and shoot them well. Not every Model 700 shoots the same.

A couple of the rifles might be improved by a good fire. :banghead:

my biggist fear is someone im responsible for keeping safe getting hurt by one of my guns or a gun they buy because i ntroduce them to guns. like when you take a new person shooting, i do a good job of training them but once they go home i cant do anything about their safety except to arm them with a good education about proper firearms handling and safety

Not having any.
Really. Guns give me peace of mind and allow me to focus on other things. In my current situation (being a minor with parents who "promised the school that there'd be no guns in the house", yeah like it's CHS's business whether we have guns or not...), I don't get them, and it's kind of mind-boggling.
Not being able to indulge in the only thing that keeps you sane makes one go a little koo-koo.

the two things that worry me are how/if I can handle a situation that would call for use of mine, and the banning of assault weapons (and all guns in general, for that matter)

The falling acceptance of guns in american culture and gun owners accepting or even encouraging attitudes to feel good gun legislation.
