What worries you about guns?

Hmm, my biggest gun worries (in no particular order):

-Forgetting to secure one of my home defense guns when friends with children come over with their kids. I am single, have no kids, and my roommate is the same, so I don't have a quick access safe- my home defense guns are loaded and accessible (it's a little quicker than a quick access safe). When a friend with kids come over I get a bit paranoid- but that is good, it keeps me from making a mistake (it is when I feel comfortable I know I've made everything safe that I'll forget). Anyway, I have friends with kids over for dinner enough now that I'm going to get a quick access safe soon.

-The political situation. It seems every year the attacks on guns become more sophisticated, and the ammo tax and the like may eventually get through. This is the case in anti-gun states (MD), pro-gun states (PA) and nationwide. With the constant attacks it is hard to imagine our always winning, and with the constant/yearly attacks we can't afford not to always win.

-Ammo prices. With the prices of commodities constantly going up so fast, and with them the price of ammo (ammo is made from lead and copper, both getting insanely expensive), I wonder how much longer (even without an ammo tax or serial numbers on ammo) shooting will remain semi-affordable.

-Being in a defensive shoot and missing or having overpenetration cause me to hit someone I don't want to hit.

-Having a gun pointed at me (I've experienced it before, it isn't fun).

-The legal repurcussions should I be in a self-defense shoot. I live in anti-gun MD. Even worse, I live in Baltimore. Very good, legal, life and death shooting situations have seen the homeowner charged with murder around here.

Gun hobbyists and enthusiasts way down at the dilettante end of the spectrum who remain ignorant, willfully or otherwise, of the true meaning of the Second Amendment.

Prevalence of MG's pre-86??

Hi guys. THR always seemed to pop up when I googled a question about firearms so I finally dedided to join. I had a couple of questions. First, did most people know full autos were legal during the 80's before the '86 ban?.Or, was it only the hard core gunnies that knew or did everyone know but just not care? I'm 21 now and just found out about a year ago that they were in fact legal in the not so distant past.

Second, what effect will DC v Heller have on NFA law? Most ranges that rent MG's have this "never gonna happen" attitude and that's really sad I think. just wanna see what the consesus seems to be.

Vegaslaith, welcome to THR.

For future reference, when you have a question not related to the topic in the thread, open a new thread. You do that from the proper board and there is a new topic button that looks a lot like the post reply button on another topic.

As for part of your question, full-auto (class III) is still legal in most states. It is just not easy to get (never has been since the 30's) and very expensive (since the gun has to have been registered since 1986 and no new full-auto guns can be made for the civilian market the law of supply and demand drives up the prices).

You go to a subforum (like Rifle Country) and click the blue "New Thread" button at the top of the forum.
Eh, be nice to him TAB, it's not like you've never been new at anything before.

idiots are what I worry about when it comes to guns.

That covers every thing from elected officals that don't have a clue and/or pushing a agenda to that guy we all know that can legal own firearms, but should not have them.

Not having as many as I want, and how much they cost.

BTW, Obama is not going to come take your guns away. Now, your state legislature, or the U.S. Congress? Those people worry me deeply....

1. not having them when I need them
2. 2nd ammendment may no longer be an individual right
3. theft
4. being too slow in a SD situation
5. ricochets and over pennetration

AS to FTF, the biggest single reason in almost any match, the 1000 round endurance shoot I just shot, etc.... is reloaded ammunition.

Yep, been there, seen that. Been there, done that.

But in over 100,000 rounds loaded now, my FTF is below 50. I'll take those odds in a match. If one of my rounds FTF, well, that's why they're competition matches--whoever does the most things right wins the match. If I screwed up at the bench, then I don't deserve to win the match.

As far as FTF with factory ammo when you need it the most?

It's never happened. I've had plenty of FTF with factory rounds during training, qualifications and simulations. But in actual situations and operations in which my weapon was fired, I've never had a FTF. I've had jams--but you train for those.

I don't worry all that much about politicians, either. I'm pretty much going to do what I'm going to do in regards to our Second Amendment rights and freedoms. I've got plenty of guns, beaucoup loaded rounds, and even more components for loading--right down to raw lead to cast more bullets.

Anti-gunners, politicians included, can kiss my Texas butt.

What worries you about guns?

My children (my oldest at least) starting kindergarten in August. She is very polite, but I'm worried that she will ill-suffer fools if they start laying some bizarre anti-head trip on her (we live in a rural area, so--less likely) at variance with the truth-according-to-my-Mom-and-Dad.

That and, of course, that TEOTWAWKI and or the SHTF scenarios we've played out like some flippen' role playing game or hobby may in fact come to pass in the nearer term as oil keeps creaping up. And the usual political ones that CONSTANTLY lurk in the minds of IL citizens.

In short, in a geschtallt sense, I'm worried that we gun nuts are the frogs in the pot and that someone craves frog legs.

theft. Living in an apartment, a safe big enough to hold my guns is not an option. all I can do is make sure all doors and windows are always locked, and the room the guns are in has had a lock added to it. also, Either the wife or I is home 24/7 99.9% of the time, as she doesnt work, and I work nights, but only 3 or 4 days a week. Still cant wait to get a house so I can build qa nice, solid gun room. Sure wish that drop in home values thing would happen here. $200,000 for a run down farm house built 100 years ago, on a 2 acres is just ridiculous. (and thats the low end, if I'm willing to commute almost an hour 1 way to work)

Cannonball888 .... You got that big a collection and supply eh ? Some fears strike me as a pleasure to have.

This about sums it up for me as well. Me screwing up access control somehow (including theft), lawyer fees (or worse) in a righteous shoot, ammo tax as control...

I worry about leaving my gun in my car, since i cant carry at work. I lock it up in a case and hide it under the seat, but still theft worries me.
