What would be a fair price? HK 91

I just can't seem to be able to get a grasp on what would be a fair asking price, so I would welcome some suggestions.

I have a HK 91 I want to sell, it is a pre ban gun. I bought it new with the Paratrooper stock, which I could never find anything good to say about, so I got rid of that torture device and put a set of the CTEME wood furniture on it. I still have the original black forend and a replacement, complete, used, black butt stock assembly. The rifle is in great shape, very low round count(I'll put up a couple pictures later tonight when I have some time to take them). I have the owners manual, sight adjustment tool cleaning kit, sling, and a box full of magazines.

The problem I am having is that I have had it so long, and have seen the prices yo-yo:banghead:, I just can't nail down what would be a reasonable price. I seem to bounce between the extremes of "free to a good home" (and no, that ain't gonna happen, I'm crazy, not stupid) and pricing like it is made out of platinum and gold (ain't gonna happen either, I'm not stupid, I'm crazy)

Since I don't have any pictures up yet, and price ideas are not taken as an offer, just assume this rifle is in VERY good condition, not 'minty' or like new, but very good shape for a pre ban aged gun.

Gunbroker...search....look at completed auction that had bids. That is the best way to figure out what something should sell for.

You should sell it down here in Massachusetts -- you can ask 3 times what it's worth. *sigh*

If you want to sell it to someone who will deeply care for it and don't mind putting them on a payment plan, shoot me a PM.

Just as an aside, every time we see one my father mentions how back-in-the-day he had $650 bucks burning a hole in his pocket, and he was looking at either the HK91 or a 9mm HK P9S-target. He picked up the pistol, which we both adore, but he won't forgive himself for not picking up that 91 for $650 too!!

One thing I would mention is that if you are going to sell it then put all the original furniture back on the rifle and sell it as close to original factory configuration as possible. Very few if anyone is going to want to buy an Hk-91 with Cetme furniture on it. It's a shame you got rid of the collapsible stock, that could have easily added another $100-$150 to the value of your gun.

Gave some thought to pricing...

Based on the condition you described I would estimate that you'd get somewhere in the neighborhood of $2,200-$2,400 if you were to sell it on Gunbroker. Prices on Hk-91's are all over the board on gunbroker but you need to look at how much people are actually bidding, not what the seller is asking.

Put your 91 back as close to factory configuration as possible, take some time to take some decent pictures of it and then list it on Gunbroker starting it at $2,200 with a buy it now option for $2,600. If you're lucky it might get bid up past $2,300 and if you're really lucky someone will use the buy it now for $2,600.

Looking at Hk-91 prices makes me wish I could go back in time and buy a dozen of them while they were still being imported and then lock them away in a vault for a few decades. Just goes to show that guns can be a heck of a good investment.

I just recently acquired an absolutely mint condition Hk-93 for $2,100 and I feel extremely lucky considering only about 19,000 were imported between 1974 and 1989 as compared to the nearly 50,000 Hk-91's that were imported during that time. Finding a good condition Hk-93 for under $2,700 is a good find, finding a mint condition one for $2,100 is almost unheard of.

Anyway good luck with the sale of your 91, if I wasn't so strapped for cash right now I'd make you an offer but I probably couldn't come close to offering you what your gun is probably worth. You shouldn't have any problem selling it on gunbroker so long as you price it competitively.

I paid $389 for mine brand new. It was a while ago...

The problem with selling a genuine H&K is that there are so many clones available at $350-$500 few buyers care to pay 4 or 5 times as much for the name. IMO it's worth around $2,000 but I doubt it will ever sell at that price. I'm not sure it would sell at half that amount. Most buyers don't see the value in the brand name and would complain that they could buy a Century 91 or similar model for $400.
