What would you choose for carry?

Contrary what people tend to say ("My gun has been perfect for X rounds"), they really can be difficult to get running properly due to the current implementation of the design by manufacturers.

That is why I have Colts. And no, they have not been difficult to get running properly. In fact I have not had to do one thing to any of the Colts I have owned. Every time I hear this I think that the futher you get away from what JMB designed the more issues you have. My Mil-spec 1911's Colts and the Mil-spec Norinco have not had problems.

Now, when I strayed from that I had problems. My adventure with a Detonics soured me to the 3" 1911 platform. Yes, it takes a lot to keep them working in perfect order. The super tight Wilson I had was accurate, but did give me problems once in a blue moon.

1911's are an afficionado's gun. You need to know what you are doing.

Well lets hope you need to know what you are doing anytime you chose to carry or pick up a loaded gun. Each platform has things you need to consider before you carry them. You are fooling yourself if you think differently.

And oh yeah, pick the one that works best for you, not what you read on a forum.

S&W M&P9c, I still believe the things I wrote above but I am more open to it as a weapon, and I don't think I would have any problem treating it like a tool (I think I can say the same for a Glock, but maybe more so for an M&P). I also like it for its slightly smaller size than the G19 or P-30. My reason for this is that I had been considering carrying in a shoulder holster for wintertime, but I think IWB has too many advantages, to change my mode of carry. However I plan carry in my coat pocket, since that is where my hands will be anyway during winter...and I will just put it back in its IWB holster after I am indoors, in relative privacy. This way my winter draw will be even fast than my summer draw.
S&W's customer service seems to be first rate, but is it easy enough to get parts (recoil spring, trigger return spring) and install them yourself? Also are there any cases of the two-piece trigger breaking at the joint? Lastly are the rust and mag drop issues over? Does S&W have a lifetime warranty for civilians?

I think you will be surprised by how well the compact M&P conceals. I have been very pleased with mine. As to my mention of reliability, it truly has been astonishingly reliable. I have never had a mag drop, nor do I see any signs of rust. The hinged trigger design has shown me no signs of weakness yet. I have owned the gun for over a year and shot somewhere around 1,000 rounds with it so far, and the trigger is just as solid as the day I bought it.

I think you will find that aftermarket support for the M&P is very strong. Holster selection is very good. CTC laser grips are available. There is a very good gunsmith out there who loves the M&P so much, that is all he does. From what I hear, his trigger jobs are outstanding. Check him out here: http://www.burwellgunsmithing.com

The warranty on the M&P is lifetime, and they are very good about it. I called after I received my two free magazines to request the extended butt plate and they sent me two free of charge, no questions asked. Additionally, my gun was a display model and someone had a lot of fun with the takedown tool and had messed the little tab up on it. Again, quick call to Smith and my replacement was at my door in less than a week...free of charge.

You can't go wrong with the M&P.

My recommendation would be the S&W M&Pc. I has replaced my SIG P239-DAK as my primary carry pistol. That's somethng I never thought would happen. It has been 100% reliable, is lighter, holds 3 more rounds than the SIG (40S&W), and is more comfortable due to the interchangeable backstraps.

I own a Sig P226 (about 20 years) and a P239 (about 7 years) and they have both been 100% rock solid performers but anyone of those pistols on your list will serve you well.

The main thing is to pick what you like and shoot best and you'll not regret it. Besides after the first one you'll probably end up acquiring some of the others on your list as well.

A lot of your choices are real good guns...

But here, let's keep it real simple!
