I ended up with about four foot of octagon barrel stock. I really don't know what I want to do with it. It's a great looking piece of steel but it would make a lousy cannon. I thought one of you might have a fun project in mind. Ideas?
Might this piece be suitable for my 1858 Remington "Buntline" project. I only need about 20". Me thinks it is likely way huge in scale given the toys you play with.
So maybe Shanghais idea is a good one. maybe make a 1" smoothbore musket wallgun. Machine a hooked breech and fit in a stock and percussion lock and side drum with a 15" lop with 4' barrel, for a near 5 and 1/2' total length. Lets see a 1" rb or equiv. shot load would be about 1500 gr. Load it up with 200 + gr bp and fire it remotely...wow. Almost like a cannon.
cannonman - go to this website for images. http://nativeworkshop.com/tomahawks.htm On a pipe tomahawk made from a rifled barrel, you can see the remains of the lands and grooves. I had one once and it was forged by Beaver Bill who displays at Friendship. Gave it to my uncle. http://www.beaverbill.com/main/
Use 40" and make your non-firing rifle to hang over the mantle.
Use the other 8" and make 2 little toy cannons with 4" barrels for the kiddies to play with. Model them after the Napoleon 12-pounders. With a little extra work and some powder you could make them go bang, just in time for the 4th of July.
